On October 26th, the opening ceremony of the "2021-grade student leaders training camp" of the Office of Student Affairs was held in room 220 in Xiangdong Building. The Party Secretary Han Xianzhou gave the first lecture entitled "Talking about Faith and Responsibility". The Minister of the Student Affairs Department of the Party committee Wang Jinbao, Deputy Minister Ji Yanyan, and nearly 200 student leaders from different colleges participated in this lecture.

The purpose of this activity was to strengthen the effect of education activities themed around "Follow the Party all one's life", to promote the comprehensive qualities of student and team construction, and use the "leaders’ effect" to stimulate the "group" with a scientific and refined educational structure to provide a strong guarantee for implementing the student’s work with good quality and order.

Wang Jinbao mobilized the audience for the ceremony at the beginning of the event. Firstly, he gave credit to the “2021 Student Leaders Training Camp” for its significance and made clear demands and gave great hope to the students. Starting with the question “Who are you?”, Wang Jinbao thoroughly analyzed the role, responsibility and mission of the student leaders. He encouraged the student leaders to strongly forge ahead and lay a solid foundation, and drive the positive development of the students onto a new level. 

After that, Zhang Haichao, the monitor of the 2020 Information Management and Information System Business Intelligence Class of the School of Safety and Environmental Engineering, spoke as a representative of the monitors, he introduced the achievements of his class construction and enthusiastically shared the relevant experience as student leaders. Chai Zihan, a psychological committee member of Class 3 of Economics in the School of Economics, gave a speech as a freshman student leaders representative. She looked forward to an enriched experience, training skills, and improved ideological and political understanding and a greater practical ability to implement the new knowledge in this training.

Then, Sui Jiaqi, a teacher from the Office of Student Affairs, gave the explanation of the "Training Manual of 2021 Student leaders", and emphasized the training instructions, daily schedule, and other activities to the training camp students. She hoped that the student leaders could strengthen their sense of responsibility and grow their abilities to shoulder duties throughout the training, and apply what they learn to their future work.

After the opening ceremony, Han Xianzhou took "Talking about Faith and Responsibility" as his topic. He gave the students a clear, detailed, and meaningful lecture from four aspects: the concept of motivation, the analysis of beliefs, the responsibilities of contemporary college students, and how to do a good job in student affairs as a student leader. 

Starting with the motivation of joining the Communist Party, Han Xianzhou introduced the variability, multiplicity, objectivity, and complexity of motivation through the example of “our central collective leadership leaving the rural area to go to Beijing to build our city leadership system in 1949”, guiding the training camp students to bolster their ideals and beliefs, strengthen their ideological support system, and further set up the correct motivation for being a student leader.

Later, Han Xianzhou used the stories of Karl Marx, Chen Wangdao, and Huang Xuhua as a lead to explain the great power of faith. Centering on contemporary college students’ responsibilities for the times, Han Xianzhou proposed to arm the mind with scientific theory and cultivate rational thinking; to be consistent with words and deeds to achieve the unity of theory and practice; to have an encompassing vison but start with the details, and to do the basics with the highest standards. He encouraged all the new student leaders to take their excellent predecessors as their models and establish lofty ideals; to correctly understand the true meaning of their work and always keep the spirits of service and devotion in their minds; to persist in developing themselves and to cultivate a true understanding of the correct ideology, and use the right methods to carry out their work persistently.

Finally, Han Xianzhou gave the students his hopes and instructions. They should keep their original aspiration for joining the student leaders’ team in mind, resolutely fulfill the responsibilities of student leaders, master professional knowledge, be skillful and competent, and learn to use the skills they have developed. Then they should make contributions to building a class with a good academic standard and harmonious atmosphere.

The camp will start a one-month period of training from October 26th. The training consists of classroom teaching, including philosophical and ideological education, student leaders’ quality training, growing development and psychological crisis response, and practical teaching including team building, the February 7th Changxindian Memorial Hall tour and class activity design. The training camp focuses on improving the comprehensive qualities of the student leaders, highlighting the effectiveness of training education, attaching importance to the particularity and development needs of student leaders, and focusing on the direction of class construction. This camp also integrated ideals and beliefs in the content, combined theoretical foundations with practical exercises, coordinated high-quality education and teaching resources inside and outside the school, and innovated the model of education for specific groups which laid a solid foundation to strengthen the cultivation of students' qualities, and guide students in self-education, self-management, and self-service.
