100 Days to Go: CUEB Volunteers Ready for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics

On the afternoon of October 27th, CUEB held a ceremony to celebrate two aspects: Devoting Youth to the Party for over 100 years & Pursuing Dreams in the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics. The former was to summarize the services of CUEB in celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. The latter was to mobilize CUEB volunteers to be ready for the upcoming Game. Both worked to cultivate and implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important speech at the rally marking the centenary of the CPC. They also hoped to translate the invaluable spirits cultivated from celebrating the 100-year anniversary of the CPC into a strong welcome of the Winter Olympics. Sun Haozhe, Vice-President, Fu Lin, Administrative Vice Minister of the Department of Publicity in the schools’ Party Committee, Wang Jinbao, Minister of Student Affairs Department of the Party Committee, and Zhou Mingsheng, Minister of the CPC Division of Graduate Student Affairs attended the ceremony, which was presided over by Zhao Xun, Deputy Secretary of the Youth League Committee of CUEB.
The ceremony was divided into two parts, “Jointly Promote the Great Journey of the Party” and “Jointly Serve the Winter Olympics”. CUEB teachers and students gave moving speeches and performed fascinating shows during the ceremony, demonstrating the positive spirit and readiness of CUEBers to volunteer for major Party and national events.
The first part of “Jointly Promote the Great Journey of the Party” kicked off with a short video called “Devoting youth to the Party for over 100 years”. This video vividly reviewed the details of major events celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, showing touching moments from training, rehearsal and performance. During major events, all teachers and students of CUEB have united and devoted themselves to their work, celebrating the 100-year journey of the CPC.

Li Xiao’ou, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of CUEB made a summary on major events celebrating the 100th anniversary since the founding of the CPC. The speech was condensed into three aspects, “Party Committee of CUEB attaches great importance to preparatory work with sophisticated planning”, “All teachers and students actively participate in, and shoulder the responsibility of the times”, and “Functional departments of different colleges work together and give vigorous support to ensure teachers and students fully involved, so as to educate and inspire all volunteers to forge ahead and make more achievements!

There were a number of models worth praising during service. They accomplished different tasks outstandingly, showing the positive spirits of CUEB students. In the ceremony, the CUEB leadership awarded Certificates of Honor to excellent individuals who ensured the success of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, and gave souvenirs and awarded certificates to volunteers and the members of CUEB Choir attending this performance.

Liu Jialiang, a representative of the volunteers, Qu Chao, a representative of performers in the celebration for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, and Cheng Yuhan, an audience member at the celebration at Tian’ anmen Square were invited to this ceremony. They shared their memories and feelings about their participation in major events around three themes, “Attending the Centennial Grand Meeting as a Youth, Writing a Youth Song as a Volunteer”, “Recalling the Great 100-year journey, Singing for the New Era”, and “Following the Party, Struggling for Next Centenary Goal”. The three expounded that New-Era youngster at CUEB should live up to the promise of our youth and the expectations of our times, and fulfill the commitment to “Please the Party Stay Assured, for the Country Has All of us to Make It Stronger”.

The first part ended with the show of “Hello, Future” performed by students participating in volunteer services.
A hundred days ago, more than 800 teachers and students of CUEB completed various service tasks, and extended the sincerest congratulations of CUEBers on the centenary of the Communist Party of China with loyal faith, full enthusiasm, and a high-spirited attitude. The Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and the Winter Paralympics will open in another 100 days, and CUEB volunteers who were selected are once again dedicated to promoting the success of the event.
The “Jointly Serve the Winter Olympics” section started with a global volunteer-enrollment video published by China named “Volunteer with Beijing 2022” which gave information about the Olympics and the volunteering work.

Xiao Xiao, head of the Volunteer Affairs Office of the CUEB Youth League Committee, first introduced the overall preparation of the Winter Olympic Games’ volunteering work. With the wide publicity of the University’s volunteer enrollment, students have actively applied since the beginning of 2020, and within a year and a half, a total of 4051 teaching staff and students have signed up through the Global Volunteer Network Recruitment System. The university has selected 28 specialist volunteers and 279 common volunteers for the Winter Olympics through various inspection, such as the University and Schools test, on-site interview and qualification test.

Zheng Yuying, the student representative of the volunteers, gave a speech on “Youth of the Party’s 100 Anniversary Develops with Beijing 2022”. As a volunteer of the Celebrating Event of the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the CPC, Zheng will again devote her time and efforts to Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games. On behalf of the 307 CUEB volunteers, she made the promise that as China’s youngsters, they would take on responsibilities to devote themselves to volunteering work whatever hardships they come across, and light up the Winter Olympics with their vigor, hard work and beauty.

Sun Haozhe said in his speech that CUEB volunteers have successfully served the Celebrating Event of the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the CPC and will do so again for the upcoming Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics and Paralympics. He hoped volunteers from the Celebrating Event would learn from the experience while actively introducing the event and its spirit to more students. To volunteers serving in the Beijing 2022 Games, Sun hoped they would make solid preparations both mentally and physically for the event and practice relevant skills, be responsible for their own welfare and take care with epidemic prevention, balancing the relationship between their studies and volunteer work and learn from the political experience. He hoped all volunteers would leave a good impression on the world stage with their warmth and professionalism.

The ceremony came to a close with the singing of “Dance with Snow” performed by members of the College Student Art Group and volunteers.
Youth League Committee of Schools also provided parallel sessions for more volunteers participating in the Cerebrating event or the Winter Olympics online through Xiaoetong app. As of writing, there are more than 2400 views, and the ceremony is highly commended.
