The leading group of CUEB’s school of Marxism, one of the key Schools of Marxism in Beijing, held their second plenary meeting on November 5th. In this meeting, Professor Xu Fang, CUEB Deputy Party Secretary conveyed the spirit of the meeting and working requirements of “Work Promotion Conference among Universities in Beijing on ‘the year of improving ideological and political education’”, and work on upgrading the ideological and political courses. President Fu Zhifeng, Vice President Wang Chuansheng and Wang Yonggui as well as the directors of relevant functional departments attended the meeting, which was presided over by Party Secretary Han Xianzhou.

Han pointed out that CUEB should continuously upgrade the ideological and political courses in an attempt to implement the relevant requirements of the central government, Beijing Municipal Committee and the Education Work Committee on the construction of these courses. Firstly, we need to stand on a high political position. This means having a deep understanding of the fact that “ideological and political courses are the key to implement the fundamental task of fostering virtues through education” and takes “Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era” as the priority of ideological and political courses. With deeper recognition of the School of Marxist Studies’ critical role in the overall university development, CUEB will regard the School construction as a fundamental and strategic project to build ideological and political courses into those courses with ideological, theoretical approachable and targeted features. Secondly, we need to give full support to the course construction. For CUEB leadership, they should attend the courses and give lectures as well. For relevant functional departments, they should, within their remits, support and ensure the construction of ideological and political courses and the School of Marxist Studies, forming a synergy for building Beijing’s key school of Marxism in CUEB. Thirdly, we need to energize the self-construction of the School of Marxist Studies. The School needs to recognize that it is the perpetual requirement of the School to improve the course quality, which requires reform and innovation, step-by-step exploration and responses to problems.

President Fu Zhifeng put forward the detailed requirements towards relevant departments and schools on implementing the quality improvement of ideological and political courses. He stressed that departments should keep attaching importance to the course construction and further modify the text of “Relevant Practices on Deepening and Promoting the Upgrade of Ideological and Political courses”. Though coordination, departments should strive to share a common goal and work together for the course construction to establish a better future development for Beijing’s key school of Marxism and implement the fundamental task of strengthening virtue through education.

All members of the leading group of CUEB’s School of Marxism, one of Beijing’s key school of Marxism, listened to the relevant work report. In addition, focusing on “Relevant Practices on Deepening and Promoting the Upgrade of Ideological and Political courses” of the university and of the School of Marxism, respectively, they had a discussion and proposed some targeted suggestions on revision.
