On November 17th, the Sports Department of CUEB held a promotional meeting of ideological and political course construction in the canopied gymnasium of the main campus. The meeting was hosted by Li Meiyu, General Party Secretary of the Sports Department.

Han Xianzhou, Party Secretary of CUEB, was present and praised the Sports Department for their work on ideological and political course construction in current stage. He said we should be aware of “the purpose of ideological and political course construction”. First, take the overall situation—the national rejuvenation strategy within a wider context of the once-in-a-century changes—as the fundamental starting point of educational reflection. Integrate revolutionary resources into our school education, keep the fundamental task of fostering virtues firmly in mind, and make efforts to foster socialist community builders and successors. Then, we should know “the essence of ideological and political course construction”. We need to study deeply the ideological and political course construction and understand that it is the conception and requirement in the new era. We should make all classes main channels of educating, and truly understand the theoretical logic of practicing, developing, and achieving Xi Jinping Thought on socialism with Chinese characteristics in education system construction. Furthermore, hold to the principle that “educators receive education first”. Our teachers should set examples for students in study, work, and behavior, and promote their all-round development. Han Xianzhou cited the “drip irrigation technology” in agriculture to explain that the construction of teachers’ ethics should be brought into the mind, while the ideological and political course construction is the inner drive and effective carrier of teachers’ ethics construction. He asked the Sports Department to focus on features of physical courses, understand the essence of “fostering virtues” and expand the coverage of “Three Whole Education (All educational workers strive to foster students in all processes and in all respects.)”, make full use of the ideological and political course construction, as well as to pay attention to the Spillover Effect, improving the comprehensive construction and development of the Sports Development.

He Kai gave an overall report on the ideological and political course construction of the Sports Development from the following aspects: “to unify teachers’ thoughts and set specific goals of ideological and political course construction”, “to stick to the principle that ‘educators receive education first’, and lay a solid foundation for education”, “to construct model courses and implement course rules according to  features of the Sports Department, and”, and also “to take measures to promote the ideological and political course construction in all respects and focus on its results ”.

Teachers from the Sports Development, Mou Chunlei, Chen Tiangeng and Wu Chunxia, demonstrated their ideological and political teaching in sports. Citing a teaching example of horizontal hitting with straight plate in table tennis, Mou Chunlei taught patriotism through the national game to increase students’ national confidence and pride, encouraged them to understand the importance of innovation and foster their spirit for making breakthroughs. In study and practice, Mou helped students gradually develop the concept of life-long physical education and all-round development of physical quality. Chen Tiangeng taught students basketball screens to experience the importance of consciousness of teamwork, rules and team spirit and the joy of teamwork in basketball, guiding students to integrate these spirits into both their work and life. Wu Chunxia showed a dance sports lesson with standard and elegant dance moves and etiquette. The process of learning dance is also the process of shaping bodies, improving physical quality, strengthening basic etiquette, fostering coordination consciousness, and establishing a self-disciplined life attitude. In the discussion exchanging experience, Zhang Xiaohang, Wang Changyou, Chen Si respectively talked about their understanding and practice about ideological and political course construction, including promoting the ideological and political course construction from teachers’ party branch, designing and implementing ideological and political model course of the Sports Department, and combining online and offline teaching mode of physical education curriculum with the ideological and political course.
