CUEB Awards the Third “Dong Jiuchang Scholarship”
On November 19th, the Third Award Ceremony of the “Dong Jiuchang Scholarship” and symposium were held at No.302, Boyuan Building, the alumni center. Class of 2018 PhD student Guo Peiyao won the grant. In the symposium, CUEBers recalled the historic struggle of Dong Jiuchang and many other leaders in building CUEB into a better university and called on young students and teachers to carry forward Dong’s spirit of “blazing a new trail and making solid progress” and model Dong’s willingness to dedicate themselves without a desire for personal rewards.
In April, Guo Peiyao published her paper in Management World, elaborating the effectiveness of specific policies in targeted poverty elimination. After evaluation by the judges, she won the Scholarship of 10,000 RMB.
Zhao Xiling, Secretary General of the Education Foundation presided over this symposium, which introduced the establishment process of the Dong Jiuchang Fund. She mentioned that Dong Jiuchang, the former Vice President of the Beijing Institute of Finance & Trade, paid significant attention to the postgraduate education program. Therefore, the “Dong Jiuchang Scholarship” aims to promote the innovation ability and scientific research quality of our postgraduates
Awards were presented to Guo by Cui Yeguang, President of the Education Foundation, and Jiang Hong, Vice President of the Graduate School.
Donor Dong Ning expressed congratulations to Guo via a video link from the US, sharing the inspiration, thankfulness, and happiness of his family for the establishment of the Scholarship.
“For me, the Dong Jiuchang Scholarship brought me more inspiration than material assistance. My supervisor told me that being a grateful and dedicated person is a priority and academic studies come second.”
Guo said she was inspired by the spirit of the President, and is continuously motivated by the spirit of CUBEers in studying meticulously and tirelessly teaching, and will put this spirit into practice in her job.
Guo said her first paper went through over 30 editions from the first draft to the final version filled with her supervisor’s revisions and suggestions. Yin Zhichao, the Head Dean of the School of Finance and Guo’s supervisor, said the establishment of the Scholarship and the example of excellent students are great inspiration for all CUEB students and teacher-student teams.
“In 2008, Yin’s team was awarded the “Excellent Graduate Teaching Team” designation under the leadership of Yin, which works as a model of “guidance with words, application with deeds” for teacher-student teams,” Jiang Hong said, “in recent years, our university has focused on postgraduate education in scientific and innovation abilities. Academic training, scientific and innovation programs, innovative practice programs, practice projects in rural areas and academic novice program are taking shape. In so doing, the quality of postgraduate education is moving forward and has reaped many benefits.”
Wang Changhua, former General Manager of CITIC Securities and a Class of 1982 alumnus in Finance said that “what CUEB achieves today is the results of CUEBers’ tireless efforts generation after generation. A successful cause requires a number of people with craftsmanship. I hope my company can contribute to the development of our CUEB and students.”
Cui Yeguang recalled the help President Dong gave him and Dong’s spirit inspires him to work in and serve CUEB. He also called on young students, teachers, and cadres to carry forward Dong’s spirit and the spirit of the older generation of CUEBers in being committed to scientific research, shouldering social responsibility, and building a better CUEB.
Xu Yanhong, Vice Director of the International Liaison Department and others also attended the symposium.
