The Interesting Sports Meeting for faculty and staff of CUEB kicked off at Hongmiao Campus on May 12th and drew to a successful end on November 26th with the group competition of “Catching the Stick” of the School of Urban Economics and Public Administration of CUEB.

Amid the birthday celebrations of the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the CPC, the Interesting Sports Meeting was designed to enrich the faculty’s cultural life and build them up, cultivate their sense of team spirit and cohesion so as to create an active school culture in CUEB.

The successful Interesting Sports Meeting, however, required lots of efforts. During the event, the epidemic in Beijing was still ongoing. In order to deliver a safe and stable sports meeting, the Labor Union of CUEB decided to suspend the event and adjust the follow-up activity plans in accordance with the requirements of epidemic prevention and control. Finally, the Labor Union Committee of CUEB decided to postpone the event until November and divided the items into several parts that involved each unit of CUEB. By doing so, the faculty and staff can not only relieve their stress and strengthen their bodies, but also improve their quality of life and enable themselves to leave behind their fast-paced daily lives.

Different from past sports meetings, some specialized and interesting items were added, and the group competition was fundamentally adjusted, too. There were six items for individual competition, namely, Rope Skipping, Kicking Shuttlecock, Golf Putter, Bounce Balls, Cast sandbags and volleyball dig. The group competition also consists of “Energy Transfer” and “Catching the Stick”. Before the event, the branch unions actively mobilized the staff members to participate in the activities. As a result, more than 1,000 members of faculty and staff engaged in the competition of each unit respectively, with the participation rate of 100%. And the winner of each competition represented their units to participate in the final of the sports meeting.

After arduous training, the participants highly valued such an event. Moreover, the leaders from different units and labor unions also appeared in first place, and they even personally participated in the competition. As for the group competition, the faculty and staff also leveraged their spare time to consider the best strategy and intensify their daily training. On the race day, Yang Hua, the General Referee, announced the competition rules and made a vow. When it comes to the individual competitions, the participants kept calm and brought their best performance while they presented the best skills and gained advantages through excellent teamwork and perfectly complimenting each other’s skills, which embodies the sporting spirit of “Never give up”.

This event enabled the faculty and staff to fully understand the connotation of “Cemented cohesion, boundless interests” and grasp the positive energy brought by the two group competitions of “Energy transfer” and “Catching the Stick”, which enhanced the group’s cohesion and cemented member’s sense of teamwork. Going forward, the Labor Union of CUEB will continue to carry out more quality extension activities and promote the construction of school culture so as to create an enabling environment that is characterized by “Healthy teachers, healthy campus”.
