On July 6, to fully implement the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education and to promote the curriculum ideological and political construction within majors, CUEB held a promotion meeting on ideological and political major construction. Party Secretary Han Xianzhou attended the meeting and delivered a speech. The meeting was presided over by Liu Qiang, Director of CEEB Academic Affairs Office.

Han Xianzhou remarked in his speech that our ideological and political major construction meet the basic requirement for talent-cultivation and major construction. Giving high praise to first heads’ exchange and sharing about promoting the ideological and political major construction, he called for further steps to improve major construction in order to cultivate more qualified professionals. For this to happen, Han proposed four ground principles. Firstly, we should not discuss curriculum ideology and politics in terms of courses, but in terms of majors, conforming to the ultimate goals of professionals cultivation in major design. Courses should meet requirements and criteria of majors, focusing on professional competences and core literacies according to its internal logic. Secondly, we should not scratch the surface but the essence, taking full consideration of the curriculum ideology and politics from the essential task of fostering character and civic virtue, high-level professionals-cultivation systems, and the mechanism of “Three-wide Education”, namely, the integrity of all staff, the whole process and all-around education. Thirdly, we will promote a comprehensive ideological and political construction, concentrating on the “major cultivation goal”. That means the construction should be integrated with the review and evaluation of undergraduate teaching and the National and Municipal First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Sites. Fourthly, we should not endow courses with too many ideological and political elements but focus on the course itself. When constructing course, we should focus on “the new era”, “capital development” and “CUEB’s characteristics”, so as to deepen the ideological and political major construction.

In the meeting, Liu Qiang briefed our work and accomplishment on curriculum ideological and political construction in recent years, and then discussed the relationship between majors and courses in terms of the background, goals, and other aspects for ideological and political major construction. To ensure effective construction, he proposed specific measures concerning the overall plan, the standpoint, primary responsibilities, etc. Lastly, Liu introduced our recent work plan for ideological and political major construction.

In exchange and sharing section, three heads from the schools taking the lead in constructing ideological and political major gave speeches. Wang Jun, the Deputy Party Secretary and the Dean of the School of Economics summarized the core qualities of ideological and political major construction in Economics as “cultivating innovative and theoretical professionals who practice earnestly and devote themselves to pursuing ideals in the new era”. Then, Wang shared their practical explorations in majors like Economics, International Economics and Trade, Economics and Trade etc., as well as their deepened construction in this regard. Yu Peng, Deputy Dean of the School of Accounting (taking charge of the School), summarized the key competences in Accounting as “cultivating accounting professionals with integrity in the new age”. What’s more, Yu shared the design of systems, specific implementation, organization, support, and some other aspects. Zhang Shijun, the Deputy Party Secretary and the Dean of the School of Law concluded that the core competences in Law major is “to foster high-quality professionals giving equal weight to moral and legal learning for the new era”. Besides, Zhang demonstrated objectives, implementation plans, and accomplishments in the ideological and political construction of Law major. Chen Lei, the Assistant of the Director of the Academic Affairs Office, introduced detailed work arrangements on how to build up a resource library named after “3+2+3” (which was designed for standard texts in ideological and political major construction) from perspectives of courses schemes, teaching plan tests, as well as writing and video-recording requirements of demonstration courses.

Going forward, CUEB will continue to construct the ideological and political major courses, meet basic requirements of professional-cultivation and major construction, set clear objectives, cultivate core professional competences, optimize systems of the core curriculum, constantly integrating the concept of fostering virtue through education into the major construction, so as to improve the effectiveness of ideological and political courses in a systematic and targeted method, and gradually construct the cultivation system of high-quality professionals.

Deans (or directors) and Deputy Deans (or deputy directors) from each school, and the faculty from the CUEB Ideological and Political Course Teaching Research Center attended the meeting.
