On October 12, in line with welcoming the 20th CPC National Congress, all Party member teachers of the School of Marxism Studies visited Zhongguancun (ZGC) Science City for study, with the theme of focusing on scientific and technological innovation, and forging ahead to the Congress. Han Xianzhou, Party Secretary of CUEB, Xu Fang, Deputy Party Secretary of CUEB, Liang Aimin, Director of the ZGC National Innovation Demonstration Zone Display Center, and Wei Xingao, Deputy Director of the ZGC National Innovation Demonstration Zone Display Center attended the activity. The activity consists of three stages: the opening ceremony of Ideological and Political Theory Course Experimental Teaching Center, visiting ZGC National Innovation Demonstration Zone Display Center and Demonstration Thematic Party Day Activity.

Han Xianzhou pointed out that this trip was very meaningful, for it witnessed the registration of the third Ideological and Political Theory Course Experimental Teaching Center. This is a positive result and great achievement of the measures of School Party Committee to establish the School of Marxism Studies and offer the ideological and political course. He expected that the School of Marxism Studies could make full use of the experimental teaching center for further development.

Han also pointed out that as school Party member teachers of ideological and political course, we should always keep in mind that “a Party branch is a fortress, and a Party member is a model”, “establishing morality and fostering people is the fundamental task” and “the key of great ideological and political course is the teachers”. We should concentrate on “what kind of capital to build and how to build it”, and implement the school-developing concept of “Practice Original Aspiration in Fostering Virtue and the Duty of Serving the Capital” in ideological and political courses.

Han stressed that the development of the capital in the new era put forward in the 13th Beijing Municipal Congress of the Communist Party of China is a new goal of our work as well as an important part of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. This visit to ZGC definitely mirrors the development of the capital in the new era and echoes the question of “how municipal universities serve the development of the capital” proposed by Cai Qi, Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Party Committee, during his visit research at CUEB. Only when teachers and students go further to study and research outside the university in the process of building a new pattern of Broader Ideological and Political Education can relevant courses be more effectively targeted in an in-depth and vivid manner, featuring more “Beijing flavor” and “freshness”. And also, high-quality Ideological and Political education requires teachers to set foot on the new era, keep right attitude to the once-in-a-century pandemic and rationally analyze China’s economy. It also requires them, especially those who are Party members, to keep a correct world outlook and methodology of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Han pointed out that teachers of the School of Marxism Studies are expected to take the lead in studying, understanding, publicizing and implementing the spirit of the upcoming 20th CPC National Congress. In addition to clearly stating the great achievements in the past decade and the future plan, it is more important for teachers and students to cultivate the awareness of “Four Consciousnesses”, “Four-sphere Confidences” and “Two Establishments” and “Two Upholds”, which respectively means the consciousness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment, the confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, the establishments of the core leadership of comrade Xi Jinping in the CPC Central Committee and the whole Party, and the guiding role of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and the upholds of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole and the Party Central Committee’s authority and its centralized, unified leadership.  

In the first part, Liang Aimin and Xu Fang jointly unveiled the “CUEB Practical Teaching Base for Ideological and Political Theory Courses”, marking the third Practical Teaching Base of CUEB officially launched.

Liang Aimin in his speech introduced the history and development of the exhibition center, and expressed his expectations for its cooperation with CUEB on carrying out practical teaching as a part of effort to foster virtues in education and build a new pattern of “Broader Ideological and Political Education”.

Zhou Yuhong, Deputy Secretary and President of the General Party Branch of the School of Marxism Studies, presided over the unveiling ceremony. 

In the second part, all Party members jointly viewed ZGC’s major achievements in pursuing independent scientific and technological innovation over the past few years in the 10000-square-meter hall of the ZGC National Innovation Demonstration Zone Display Center.

After visiting some enterprises including Xiaomi, Baidu, Megyii and Originwater and learning some new technologies, new energy and new materials, all were deeply impressed by the ZGC spirit featuring “determined reform, audacious innovation, tolerance for failure and people-oriented view”. Every innovative enterprise and their innovative product reflect that ZGC is regarded as a breeding ground for new systems, new technologies, rewritten records and experience. As a “test field” for incubating scientific and technological innovation, ZGC taking the world as a frame of reference dares to be the first and dares to try, fully showcasing the “Beijing demeanor” in the cause of furthering reform and opening up. 

In the third part, the Party Branch of the Teaching and Research Office of Ideological Morality and Rule of Law of the School of Marxism Studies held a Demonstration Thematic Party Day Activity themed with “Leveraging the Vanguard Role of Party Members, Improving the Quality of Ideological and Political Courses”. In this activity, teachers shared their thoughts in learning the spirit of the essential instructions of the Central Committee and General Secretary Xi Jinping on building the “Boarder Ideological and Political Courses”, and their insights in educating students based on their own experience and work. General Secretary of the Party Branch Wang Yin presided over the activity. 

Before the activity came to an end, Wang Yin systematically summarized the prospects and requirements for the construction of the School of Marxism Studies and the ideological and political theory course, while briefly summing up the efforts and achievements of the School of Marxism Studies regarding the implementation of the working requirements of CUEB Party committee. He also put forward requirements for the whole Party members to better play their exemplary vanguard roles, so as to write a new chapter for the development of the School of Marxism Studies in the new era.
