Arguably, the new faculty members and students need to visit the school history museum since it not only represents an important part of the “three into” (which means to incorporate the system of theories of socialism with Chinese characteristics into the curriculum and make it a way of thinking), but also is gradually emerging as a vital part of efforts to promote education for loving and honoring our university. On the morning of October 11, the Minister of Teacher Affairs Department of the Party committee of CUEB conducted training for new faculty members. Meanwhile, more than 100 new faculty members took this favorable opportunity to visit the School History Museum of CUEB in the charge of Zhao Xiling, curator of CUEB Archive and School History Museum, Geng Shuo, the museum interpreter, as well as teacher Huang Shaoqing.

The museum interpreter of CUEB introduced the historical evolutions and remarkable achievements to the new faculty members in a detailed manner during the visit. Also, the curator Zhao Xiling has made herself a good narrator through personal experiences. For example, she figured out how the Camel became an important cultural element in CUEB school emblem and what value it represents. Zhao Xiling also told the new faculty members about the moving stories of Professor Ren Fushan, one of the forerunners of Labor Economics in CUEB, and Chen Rixin, the former Party Secretary of Beijing Institute of Finance and Trade, who has a strong sense of righteousness and unselfish devotion to public interests and his clean hand. Furthermore, Zhao Xiling encouraged new faculty members to integrate the history of CUEB into their classroom teachings, adding that their further career progress is naturally intertwined with the school on the day they joined CUEB. Zhao hopes that the fine traditional culture can be a spiritual leader and driver behind their development.

After the visit, the new faculty members all formed a better understanding of the encouraging stories of retirees and historical evolutions of CUEB. Looking ahead, they will better practice the university’s motto of “advocating morality, valuing competence, strategizing national development, and serving the people” and make alive the “Camel Spirit”. Gao Tingfan is one of the new faculty members who graduated from Renmin University of China (RUC). When in RUC, he was a student with successive undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs of study and studied at the Business School of RUC. Therefore, he generated a sense of familiarity when learning about the business and economic history of CUEB, hoping that chances would be offered to learn and leverage well the valuable resources of the Museum. What’s more, Liu Yuan and Zhou Ting were also greatly motivated by the excellent narration of Zhao Xiling and deeply impressed by the spirit and warmth of CUEB. Bi Yu, a 2012 undergraduate of CUEB, gained a doctoral degree of CUEB in 2022. She recalled the unforgettable time in CUEB and said that she could carry forward the “Camel Spirit”. Going forward, Bi Yu will forge ahead with pioneering efforts, making her contributions to bringing CUEB a promising future.

Previously, the International School of Economics and Management and School of Public Finance and Taxation organized Grade of 2022 to visit the School History Museum, enabling them to learn about the history and achievements of CUEB since its founding.

To spread the culture of school history in a multi-channel way, the School History Museum of CUEB established a “three into” path, namely, the voluntary narrator of alumni and history of CUEB shall be set up in the museum, the new faculty member and students visit the museum, integrate the historical story of CUEB into the classroom teaching. In the future, the School History Museum will further dig out more historical stories and figures, refine the interpretations, establish a long-term effective mechanism of teachers and students visiting the history museum, and integrate the historical stories of CUEB into lessons, in a bid to make full use of the role of school history in education to foster personnel with morality and knowledge.
