At 10 a.m. on October 16 in this clear and crisp autumn, the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China kicked off at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. General Secretary Xi Jinping elaborated on the Party’s work of the past five years and the great transformation over the past decade of the new era in the report to the 20th National Congress. He remarked that the transformation over the past decade of the new era marks a milestone in the history of the Party, of the People’s Republic of China, of reform and opening up, of the development of socialism, and of the development of the Chinese nation. He stressed that it is the solemn historical responsibility of today’s Chinese Communists to continue opening new chapters in adapting Marxism to the Chinese context and the needs of the times. From this day forward, the central task of the Communist Party of China will be to lead the Chinese people of all ethnic groups in a concerted effort to realize the Second Centenary Goal of building China into a great modern socialist country in all respects and to advance the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts through a Chinese path to modernization.
