CUEB Holds Project Close Report Meeting on Pilot Schools’ Ideological and Political Courses Construction

On October 26, the close report meeting of the pilot projects of curriculum ideological and political construction in schools was held in the third lecture hall of Boyuan Building. It comprehensively summarized the achievements and experience of the work. Seven pilot schools, including the College of Business Administration, School of Economics, School of Accounting, School of Labor Economics, School of Culture and Communication, School of Law, and School of Foreign Studies, respectively reported their projects. Party Secretary Han Xianzhou, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Xu Fang, and Vice President of CUEB Li Xiaomu attended the meeting. It was presided over by Liu Qiang, Director of the Academic Affairs Office.

In the speech, Han Xianzhou stressed that the pilot school model, as an initiative to promote the curriculum ideological and political construction in recent years, has brought forth wonderful fruits beyond our expectations. To promote the work, all pilot schools have actively explored and mobilized its strength, and formed their own modes for a natural and implicit effect, thus setting good examples for other schools to follow. Han pointed out that all schools are working to deepen the curriculum ideological and political construction within the framework of majors. Since personnel training should be major-specific, we should have a deeply understanding of the “Three-Wide Education” system (which means all educational workers strive to foster students in all processes and in all respects) and the nature of personnel cultivation. What’s more, throughout the whole process, the curriculum system, teaching in the classroom and practice, teaching models and means, and improvement in teaching competency should be in line with the education philosophy and core literacies of specific majors. In the next step, each school should firmly grasp the “Three-Wide Education” system to establish the framework of ideological and political major. And characterized activities, such as the curriculum teaching and design competition, should be organized to continuously deepen the construction. The workforce training system in the new era should also be built from aspects such as subjects, textbooks, curriculums, and management. In addition, each school should improve teachers’ ethics based on the ideological and political major construction, and pay attention to the spillover effect of curriculum ideological and political construction. Han highly praised the work of pilot schools and encouraged them to work hard, and write a gorgeous chapter again in the new era.

At the meeting, Li Xiaomu announced the results of the pilot projects, all schools had completed the project and won the title of Demonstration School of Course Ideological and Political Construction. Among them, the School of Economics, School of Accounting, and School of Law distinguish themselves as excellent ones. In the review, Li fully appreciated the enthusiasm and achievements of the Academic Affairs Office and all schools and hoped that all schools should take the curriculum ideological and political construction as a foothold, explore effective measures to assess the undergraduate education, in a bid to develop curriculum ideological and political construction in an integrated and comprehensive manner. In this way, we can continuously improve the quality of personnel training, and make the ideological and political major construction the momentum to promote the overall development of schools.

Liu Qiang summarized ten initiatives and achievements of CUEB in deepening the curriculum ideological and political construction within majors in recent years. He emphasized that the promotion of the pilot project reflects the basic idea of deepening the construction and the implementation of CUEB’s Opinions on the Implementation of the Plan to Promote Curriculum Ideological and Political Construction in Pilot Schools and other documents. Deans and secretaries of the seven pilot schools took turns to report their own school’s construction methods and results.

The College of Business Administration adopts a matrix approach to promote the curriculum ideological and political construction, building two layers of efforts, three ways, four dimensions of business, and five themes, stressing all-staff participation, and combining majors and personal characteristics, in order that curriculum ideological and political constructions are closely entwined with practical teaching. The School of Economics takes ideological and political major construction as a lead to reform the major system, makes the demonstration courses the benchmark to enhance the construction comprehensively, uses a high-level practical teaching system as the basis to innovate the practical education mode, and regards teachers’ ethics as the core to build the spirits of ideological and political education.

The School of Accounting, based on its own features, has done an overall plan around top-level design, such as strengthening the infusion of the ideological and political elements, integrating Party building with profession in courses, thus developing curriculum ideological and political construction in a systematically research-based manner. The School of Labor Economics has built up a mechanism to deepen the construction within majors to effectively improve its competency to cultivate high quality workforce.

The School of Culture and Communication has established a variety of mechanisms, such as the mechanism for experienced teachers to pass on their knowledge to new teachers, guarantee and accountability mechanisms for curriculum ideological and political construction. The School of Law has proposed four methods, including giving equal weight to ethics and legal learning, Party-building, process management, and theoretical research, and has made achievements through the second classroom, improving teachers’ ethics, better-compiling textbooks, and other seven areas. The School of Foreign Studies emphasizes “learning foreign languages with the aspiration of building up China” and adopts the top-down method by the Party Committee, labor union, and foreign teachers to lead the teacher team achieving a good situation to “convey ideological and political ideas in every course by every teacher”.

 

The heads of the Party and Government Office, the Party Committee Publicity Department, the Academic Affairs Office, and the Teacher Affairs Department of the Party Committee also attended the meeting.
