On the morning of October 26, CUEB held a meeting on research management in Conference Room No.7, on the fifth floor of Bona Building. Wang Yonggui, Member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of CUEB, attended and delivered a speech. Yao Dongxu, Director of the Scientific Research Office presided over the meeting. All staff of the Office of Research participated for in-depth discussion.

Wang Yonggui pointed out that under the leadership of the Party Committee and Office of Administration, and through the joint efforts of all schools and departments, our teachers have made remarkable progress in the past year in publishing papers on high-level Chinese and English academic journals, in governmental reports, and in the application, approval and completion of various projects. The research well supported the high-quality development of CUEB, and contributed our wisdom to serving the capital and the country. What’s more, the strategy and ideas of our research are in line with the science and education, the workforce development strategy emphasized by the Party’s 20th National Congress. Various research undertakings are developing vigorously. A series of innovative measures issued by CUEB Journal Press are in line with the development of academic journal construction to serve the authors and readers better, constantly improving the quality and influence of our academic journals. Looking ahead, taking the important duty endorsed by the Beijing Municipal Government as a research-oriented university, CUEB needs to learn from past experiences and lessons, conduct in-depth research at the grassroots level, understand the confusions of frontier researchers, find out the difficulties in research management, and further clarify the important mission in the next stage. And also, we need to steadily improve our ability to serve the capital and the country under the guidance of the 14th Five-Year Plan of our university and improve the level of research teams and their research achievements while strengthening organized research practice.

Zhao Jiazhang, Deputy Director of the Office of Research, and all comrades in the Research Achievements Management Team carefully sorted out the specific work in research achievements recognition, excellent achievements recommendation, research awards and statistics reporting, and the construction of research bases and think tanks. Then, they conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on existing problems and future plans. Fan Hejun, Deputy Director of the Office of Research, and all colleagues of the Research Project Management Team introduced the work of our school in the mobilization of project application, project approval, project inspection and completion, fund management and publicity of excellent projects. Fan put forward the guideline of “extensive mobilization to bring together in an integrated way all efforts to generate development momentum”, so that we could do a good job in the mobilization and organization of the project application. At the same time, Fan and staff of the CUEB Journal Press had in-depth exchanges on optimizing the proofreading process, sticking to the ideological bottom line, improving the quality of the journal, highlighting the characteristics of the journal, and serving the research work of our university.

Wang Yonggui stressed that the Office of Research should stick to the concept of “Mega-research” and promote the related work to a new level to serve well the frontier researchers in our university. First, we need to study, understand, research and publicize and implement the spirit of the Party’s 20th National Congress. We will hold on to the right research direction and construct our academic journals under the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. We will do a great job in the research work on the basis of building a strong educational system, greater scientific & technological strength, a quality workforce, and self-reliance & strength on science and technology, so as to serve well the Capital, Beijing, and national development strategy, in a greater sense, to serve the second centenary goal of building a modern socialist country in all respects and the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, which we call the “Mega-research”. Second, taking Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as a guide in daily research management, we adhere to the high-quality development of research, deepen the reform of cultivation through research to achieve steady advancement of our research tasks. Furthermore, we need to promote the exploration and practice of organized research to form a unique and effective research management and service system of CUEB through technological enabling, mission responsibility, work process optimization. The third is to further optimize job responsibilities and the research management system, organize a series of evaluations to enhance researchers’ senses of gain and the social influence of remarkable research achievements. 

In addition, efforts should be made to further coordinate with other departments of the school to well implement relevant training and service work in project management, research integrity protection and financial reimbursement. We need to make sure to do a good job in related training services for research secretaries and assistants of colleges, continue to optimize research project clinics, and the construction of workshop for academic research and paper writing, face-to-face instruction and regular push of research FAQs. Through technological innovation and empowerment, the frontier teachers and researchers are relieved from tedious routine tasks and repetitive work, then we can construct a research atmosphere that unifies the university, departments, schools, disciplines, researchers and graduates. At the same time, Wang Yonggui also remarked that the CUEB Journal Press should further clarify the strategic position and key priorities of each journal, stick to the quality improvement and transformation-related work, shorten the review and feedback period from external editors, and explore ways to absorb high-quality essays by expanding the pool of authors and well-known experts, as well as well-known editorial committees, establishing high-quality featured columns. We should pay attention to the ideological review of academic papers, further optimize the quality and transparency of the review process to serve the research workers well and further improve the quality and reputation of our journals. At last, Wang Yonggui proposed that in the development of the research of our school, we should be adept at using research big data to analyze and guide our own work with detailed and solid data so as to promote the high-quality development of our research service and management.
