On the afternoon of November 10, CUEB held the meeting about the social practice of students in the Press Room of Boyuan Building. Yang Jiayi, Director of the Memorial Hall for the CPC’s Early Revolutionary Activities in Beijing, An Zhujun, Vice Director of the Memorial Hall for the CPC’s Early Revolutionary Activities in Beijing, and Sun Haozhe, Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of CUEB, attended the meeting. Leaders of CUEB students’ social practice leading group, directors from Party organizations of teaching units of all levels, instructor representatives and student representatives also attended the meeting. Fu Lin, Director of the Office of students’ social practice and Administrative Vice Minister of Party Committee Publicity Department, presided over the meeting.

At the meeting, Sun Haozhe launched the campaign to “Study the Spirit of the Party’s 20th National Congress and Set out on a New Journey to construct Broader Ideological and Political education in Beijing”. A series of four programs is set to be in place, namely, “Forging Souls”, “Broadening Bases”, and “Leading Ways”, “Lighting Stars”. Among them, “Forging Souls” means to cultivate talents through key course-based ideological and political education; “Broadening Bases” means to further promote curriculum ideological and political construction, “Leading Ways” means to bring in social resources to carry out daily ideological and political education, and “Lighting Stars” means to guide students to gain knowledge and enhance abilities in social practice.

The signing ceremony for constructing the “Broader Ideological and Political Education” base between CUEB and Memorial Hall of CPC’s Early Revolutionary Activities in Beijing is taking place. With Sun Haozhe and Yang Jiayi bearing witness, Wang Jinbao, Minister of Student Affairs Department of the Party Committee, signs an agreement with An Zhujun.

On behalf of CUEB Party Committee, Sun Haozhe showed gratitude to Yang Jiayi for his support in the “Broader Ideological and Political Education” practical education base construction and gave high praise to achievements and progress in the past year. He put forward four requirements for promoting the reform and carrying out the construction. Firstly, we shall improve the consciousness of students’ social practice by putting students first, and plan the new academic year based on the study, publicity, and implementation of the spirit of the 20^th CPC National Congress. We need to recognize that students’ social practice is an integral part in implementing the spirit of the Congress, the Party’s educational policy, and the basic task of fostering virtues through education. And we need to strengthen top-level design, continue to serve the capital in the new era, and arrange students’ social practice in the next year. Secondly, we shall motivate more teachers to participate in social practice and perform “Broader Ideological and Political Education” well. According to General Secretary Xi Jinping’s remarks on “serving youths wholeheartedly as their confidant and their guide”, we should serve young students from demand-side, not just from supply-side. Besides, we need to mobilize more renowned professors and young teachers to guide students, and in this way, our teaching and research shall be reciprocally benefitted. Thirdly, we shall guide students to make contributions to the society with knowledge and skills, so as to increase their competitiveness in further study or job fair. Taking a second thinking, students can come to realize the value of the Party’s innovative theories and practices by devoting themselves to making our country strong through social practices rooted in China. Significant social practice programs, as stepping stones, could provide students valuable opportunities to participate and display. Fourthly, we shall summarize best practices to develop revolutionary culture of CUEB style. We need to make full use of resources and platforms and ensure a one-plus-one-is-greater-than-two effect by combining students’ social practice with teaching research and merging labor education into ideological and political education. Taking this signing ceremony as an opportunity, we could further strengthen cooperation between the Memorial Hall and our school by exploring a new cooperation mode to implement the agreement. Sun emphasized that our political priority is to study, publicize and implement the spirit of the Congress. Relying on the newly established propaganda group aiming at studying, publicizing, and implementing the spirit of the Congress, we should closely link all staff and students through practical thinking and learning. In addition, we need to comprehensively interpret the Report to the 20th National Congress of CPC, so as to make the spirit deeply rooted in everyone’s heart.

Li Xiaoou, Secretary of the School Youth League Committee, reported the students’ social practice in 2021-2022. She briefed the overall situation from four aspects. In the past year, she has established the system by upholding the Party’s leadership and enhancing overall planning, enriched the spirit by integrating labor education into ideological and political education, built the platform by innovating modes and creating brands, and forged the synergy by integrating internal resources and utilizing external support in the case of practical education.

Yuan Yuqing, Wang Tianzong, Wei Junyu, and Zhang Xinxu shared their experiences and gains in participation in social practice with the theme of “Taking Root in China and Fulfilling Responsibilities of the Youth”. Pan Na, the instructor of students’ social practice, told a story of a practice group called “Yao Xiang Qing Si” aiming to contribute to rural revitalization in a “culture plus technology” way, which carried out research on the Yao people (a minority ethnic group of China) in Heba village of Guizhou province for several summer vacations. Lian Huan, teacher of the ideological and political education, taking the course “Ideology and Morality and Rule of Law” as an example, introduced new explorations and insights into practical teaching methods in ideological and political theoretical courses.

In order to study, publicize and implement the spirit of the Party’s 20th National Congress, CUEB organized a propaganda group composed of outstanding student Party members, students of the “Qingma Project” (the training project for youth Marxists and student cadres), and some students leaders. Sun Haozhe presented the propaganda group’s representative with a flag.

Moving forward, CUEB shall deepen the comprehensive reform of “all-faculty, whole-process, all-round” education system in a bid to build the pattern of Broader Ideological and Political Education, and utilize all kinds of Beijing revolutionary resources to foster students, carrying out the Four Projects of Spirits building, Foundations strengthening, Navigation directing and Ideological enlightening. Meanwhile, we shall take concrete actions to study the spirit of the Party’s 20th National Congress. For example, we will explore new ways for a good ideological and political education in the new era; we will redouble efforts to build our featured “Broader Ideological and Political Education” which could inspire all staff to cultivate students in all-round and whole-process way.
