On December 16, under the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Beijing Municipal People's Government, the 2022 International Conference on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application (Beijing): Conference on Enterprise ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) Integration Between Industry and Education & Cooperation of Industry, Education, Research and Application kicked off. With the theme of “Deepening the Cooperation of Industry, Education, Research and Application to Promote Enterprise ESG Development”, the conference was hosted by National Center for Schooling Development Programme and co-hosted by CUEB online, bringing together more than 130 experts and scholars from universities, enterprises and research institutes in China, the United States, Canada and other countries. Liu Chang’an, member of the work of the CPC Beijing Municipal Education Committee and Deputy Director of Beijing Municipal Education Commission, Yin Zhichao, member of the Standing Committee of the CUEB Party Committee and CUEB Vice President, attended the meeting and delivered speeches. Liu Xuexin, Dean of the College of Business Administration and Executive Director of China ESG Institute, presided over the opening ceremony.

Liu Chang’an pointed out that International Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application should follow the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress and promote international exchanges and openness for win-win cooperation. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, sustainable development in China has entered a new stage, putting forward higher requirements for International Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application. As a sustainable development framework that takes into account environmental, social and governance benefits, the high-quality development of International Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application in the ESG field is expected to strengthen the international cooperation and innovation capacity and further produce significant innovation. This conference aims to explore the new pattern and new method of enterprise ESG development, in a bid to advance high-quality development.

Yin Zhichao pointed out that the International Conference on the Cooperation and Integration of Industry, Education, Research and Application is a high-quality international academic event. Consequently, CUEB has been committed to scientific research and discipline construction in the field of ESG. Since its establishment, ESG Institute has made substantial progress in many aspects. In current stage, the entire Party and the Chinese people of all ethnic groups embark on a new journey to build China into a modern socialist country in all respects. This conference remains a platform for the cooperation of all walks of life to implement a new development philosophy. We hope that all parties can take this opportunity to explore a new breakthrough and contribute to the high-quality development of our country.

Xie Haixia, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchanges Office, presided over the conference for overseas experts. Professor Peng Lin from the City University of New York, professor Kiridaran Kanagaretnam from York University, and professor Stephanie Bertles from Simon Fraser University delivered keynote speeches.

Sun Zhongjuan, Deputy Dean of the College of Business Administration, presided over the conference for domestic experts. Zeng Xiaoliang, Professor of Business School of Southern University of Science and Technology, Qian Longhai, Party Secretary and chairman of the Board of Supervisors of First Capital, and Huang Yi, professor of Fanhai International School of Finance of Fudan University delivered keynote speeches.

In the afternoon, Qiu Ciguan, Director of Sustainable Finance Department of Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, presided over the Round-Table Forum on ESG Integration Between Industry and Education and Talent Cultivation. Yu Jiantuo, Deputy Secretary General of China Development Research Foundation, Hu Jingwen, General Manager of CECEP Environmental Consulting Group Beijing, Gu Qing, Project officer of Ford Foundation Beijing Office, and Wang Yao, Dean of the International Institute of Green Finance, Central University of Finance and Economics, shared opinions about the cultivation of talents in the ESG field.

Li Henshi, Co-founder and General Manager of Capitallink, presided over the Round-Table Forum on ESG Industry, Education, Research and Application and Collaborative Frontier Research. Yin Hong, Deputy Dean of Research Institute of Modern Finance of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Su Yanzhu, General Manager of TruValue Asset Management, Li Zekun, the member of Research Institute of Ant Group, Xue Chen, Senior Vice President of ESG and Rating Department of Development Bank of Singapore (DBS Bank), Fan Shaohua, General Manager of Solutions and Research at Legend Corporate Solutions Limited Group China had in-depth discussions on new frontiers of ESG field and put forward suggestions and ideas for ESG development.

In the end, Wang Kai, Director of the Department of Corporate Sustainability, presided over the closing ceremony. Liu Xuexin then made a summary. According to Liu, this conference aims to promote the deep integration of industry and education in the field of enterprises ESG and sustainable development, as well as to strengthen high-quality cooperation of industry, education, research and application. All participants shared their achievements and experience with great enthusiasm, laying a good foundation for further in-depth cooperation. We hope that the vision of openness and cooperation can still be followed in the future, thus adding momentum for our country to embark on the path of high-quality development and to build a community with a shared future for mankind.
