Vice President of CUEB Meets Deputy Dean of Beasley School of Law of Temple University
On the afternoon of April 4 in Boyuan Building, Yin Zhichao, member of CUEB Party Standing Committee and Vice President of CUEB, met Professor John Smagula, Deputy Dean of Beasley School of Law of Temple University, and Yang Chen, Operations Director of Temple University's Beijing Office. The two sides discussed how to promote in-depth cooperation in a comprehensive manner.
Yin Zhichao welcomed the two guests and extended gratitude to Prof. John for his efforts in promoting joint training program between the Schools of Law in the two universities. Yin called on the two sides to promote existing projects and continue to strengthen cooperation in such business subjects as economics, finance, accounting and insurance, and carry out joint training programs for undergraduate, master, and doctoral students. He also hoped the two sides to establish cooperative education program and expand cooperation in professional fields, so as to bring bilateral cooperation to a new level.
Professor John Smagula thanked CUEBers for their warm reception. He pointed out that thanks to the solid foundation and broad prospects of cooperation between the two sides, the cooperation scope has been wider and wider based on what have been achieved. He stated that in the future, he will coordinate with the International Student and Scholar Services of Temple University and other relevant colleges to promote joint student training programs, teacher visits, and Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools between the two universities. He welcomed CUEB delegation to Temple University for visits and exchanges.
Xie Haixia, Director of the International Cooperation and Exchanges Office, Wei Huaying, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation and Exchanges Office, Wei Qingpo, associate professor from the School of Law and Fang Yu, teacher of the School of Finance, are present at the meeting.
Subsequently, Prof. John gave publicity to the cooperation project with the School of Law of CUEB in Conference Room 2 of Boyuan Building. The publicity meeting was presided over by Wei Qingpo and attended by Xie Haixia, Qu Xiangdong, teacher of the School of Law, and some graduate and undergraduate students from the School of Law. Wei Qingpo, on behalf of the school, sincerely supported the publicity and expressed gratitude for the cooperation opportunities between the two sides.
Prof. John humorously explained the importance of studying abroad for personal growth and career development. Based on students' interest, he gave a detailed introduction to the LLM (Master of Laws) program, course content, training methods, and admission conditions of Temple University. Based on the current employment situation, Prof. John put forward practical suggestions for the career planning of students present. At the same time, he patiently answered questions from students, helping everyone to know the details of studying in the United States. Yang Chen introduced the advantages of the LLM program of Temple University, encouraging everyone to develop in a broader direction, attach importance to English learning, and continuously improve their career value.
After introducing the basic project, Qu Xiangdong shared his overseas learning experience, encouraging students to cherish learning opportunities and brave hardships. He hoped that every student would make breakthroughs and gain new insights. This publicity provided great help for students to participate in future exchange projects, giving them a much clearer picture about the significance of overseas exchanges, and providing more feasible guidance for students interested in studying abroad.
In recent years, the School of Law has attached great importance to foreign exchange and cooperation, actively expanding channels for foreign cooperation, and continuously deepening the reform of personnel cultivation models. In the future, on the basis of consolidating the connotation of international education, it will actively promote the internationalization of personnel cultivation and curriculum system.
Temple University has a long history of cooperation with CUEB. Since 2011, CUEB has sent 24 students to study at Temple University. In 2011, the two universities established cooperation between the schools of law, which was later upgraded to cooperation between the two universities in 2014. In 2016, the cooperation continued to deepen, with the “3+2” program (3 years of undergraduate study and 2 years of postgraduate study) being launched, providing students with a multi-level and multidisciplinary international exchange platform. In the 2020-2021 academic year, the two universities signed an agreement on student exchange, and CUEB successfully enrolled 11 exchange students from Temple University. At present, the programs offered at the university level include tuition-free exchange program, study abroad program, and “3+2” program.
