Luo Ruisi from Overseas Chinese College Wins Special Prize in Beijing Higher Education Press Cup: Telling China’s Stories Well in Foreign Languages

Recently, Luo Ruisi, a student from Overseas Chinese College, won the Special Prize in 2023 Beijing Higher Education Press Cup to tell China’s stories well in foreign languages with short videos. It was guided by Zhang Wei, Director of the Basic Course Department of Overseas Chinese College.

 

 

Luo Ruisi, a student of Business Administration (International Accounting) Class 2, Grade 2021, is an active member of the Party. She has been awarded the Second Prize in the College English Competition, the Second-Class Scholarship, and the titles of Merit Student and Excellent League Member.

 

Luo showed love for her hometown Nanning from a unique perspective in the refined short videos, which reflect the determination, passion and abilities of the younger generation in fulfilling the mission in the new era.

 

 

This event reflects the achievements of the international curriculum-based ideological and political education reform of Overseas Chinese College. Moving forward, the College shall work harder to improve students’ ability to make China’s voice heard globally, and cultivate high-quality professionals with patriotism, global visions, and excellent skills for the Party and the country. 

 

 

【Activity Introduction】

 

Excellent short video competition among college students: telling China’s stories well in foreign languages in 2023 Beijing Higher Education Cup.

 

This activity aims to implement the spirit of the Party’s 20th National Congress, enhance the influence of Chinese civilization and Chinese culture, accelerate the construction of Chinese discourse and narrative system by telling China’s stories well and making China’s voice heard globally, thus presenting China as a country worthy of friendship, trust and respect, and deepening exchanges and mutual understanding of civilizations.

 

The event was hosted by the Higher Education Office of Beijing Education Commission and Higher Education Press, organized by College English Research Branch of Beijing Association of Higher Education and Curriculum-based Ideological and Political Alliance of College Foreign Language, and co-hosted by the School of Foreign Languages of Renmin University of China. It attracted over 200 teachers and students from 47 universities in Beijing and received 377 short videos. After the evaluation by the organizing committee, 88 works were shortlisted, among which 68 were awarded, including 32 second prizes, 22 first prizes, and 14 special prizes.

 

This activity has improved the students’ competence to communicate Chinese culture in foreign languages, and provided them a better understanding of contemporary China, as well as the fine traditional Chinese culture. Additionally, it also strengthened their recognition of the core socialist values as well as the view of a community with a shared future for mankind.
