CUEB Holds Meeting on Creating Green University
On the afternoon of June 1, CUEB held a meeting to discuss the creation of a green university. During the meeting, CUEB officials conveyed the notice from the Beijing Municipal Education Commission (BMEC) regarding the Beijing Green Universities Creation Standards. Additionally, they established the CUEB Green University Creation Work Leading Group to oversee the project and discussed the action plan. Besides, three related work systems were revised and approved. Yao Linxiu, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and Vice President of CUEB, attended the meeting and delivered a speech.
Yao emphasized that creating a green, safe, and smart campus is a crucial strategy for BMEC to advance the building of a leading country in education during 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025). Committed to establishing a green university, all schools should have a clear division of labor to clarify responsibilities within their departments, while ensuring the integration in the following three aspects:
Firstly, green university should be integrated into high-quality development. This means we need to understand the significance of green university from the new philosophy of innovative, coordinated, green, open, and shared development as the green university shows how we register the high-quality development in all respects. To make this possible, it requires each school to put more efforts into creating a university with new features and development patterns, enabling the building of green university consistent, effective and systematic.
Secondly, green university should be integrated with publicity. We shall leverage media platforms, such as school bulletin boards, big screens, WeChat Official Accounts, and Douyin (the Chinese version of TikTok), to strengthen the promotion of energy conservation, emission reduction, garbage sorting, “empty plate” campaign, etc., enhancing the ecological awareness of teachers and students.
Thirdly, green university should be integrated with the fundamental task of fostering virtue through education. We shall lead teachers and students to fully comprehend the great significance of ecological civilization in the new era. To this end, we will incorporate labor education into the green university building, organize teacher and student volunteers to carry out garbage sorting monitoring activity, and encourage CUEBers to develop a habit of green living, making ecological civilization awareness a political and ideological consciousness for them.
Li Hua, Deputy Party Secretary and Director of Office of CUEB Logistics Services, provided a comprehensive explanation of the phases, responsibilities, and systems involved in the creation of a green university.
After thorough discussion, all the 14 heads of the participating departments unanimously agreed to the proposed plans and systems.
