Malaysian Deputy Minister of Education Wong Kah Woh Visits CUEB
On June 18, Wong Kah Woh, Malaysian Deputy Minister of Education, led an 18-member delegation to visit CUEB. The two sides held in-depth discussions on joint education, high-level research collaboration, and the development of an English language testing center, reaching multiple practical cooperation intentions. The visit showcased the outcomes of President Xi Jinping’s 2025 visit to Malaysia, and marks another milestone in the educational partnership between CUEB and its Malaysia counterparts. It also contributes to building a high-level China-Malaysia strategic community with a shared future and adds fresh impetus to the “Golden 50 Years” of China-Malaysia relations.
The main attendees from Malaysia included Wong Kah Woh, Malaysian Deputy Minister of Education; Azam, Deputy Director-General of the Ministry of Education of Malaysia; Badrul, Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Examinations Council; Qiu Yuping, President of the Malaysia Association for the Promotion of Education and Culture; Zufri, Examination Officer of the Malaysian Examinations Council; and Sallehuddin, Education Counselor of the Embassy of Malaysia in China. From CUEB, Wu Weixing, President and Deputy Party Secretary of CUEB and Yao Linxiu, Vice President and Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee, attended the meeting, which was chaired by Li Kunpeng, Vice President and a member of Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee. Accompanying officials from relevant Malaysian departments, along with Fu Lin, a member of Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee and Director of the Publicity Department, as well as heads of relevant offices, participated in the activities.
During the meeting, President Wu Weixing extended a warm welcome to Deputy Minister Wong Kah Woh and his delegation, and delivered remarks on advancing educational cooperation between China and Malaysia. President Wu noted that the friendship between China and Malaysia has a long history, and now is a prime time to deepen educational collaboration. He emphasized that both sides should leverage their respective strengths in the education sector and expand cooperation in fields such as the digital economy and green economy. Such efforts will help foster mutual understanding and friendship among younger generations and contribute to the socio-economic development of both countries.
President Wu Weixing gave an overview of CUEB’s history, newly developed disciplinary strengths, and internationalization strategy. He also put forward four proposals to further advance China-Malaysia educational cooperation: First, CUEB and its Malaysian counterparts would work together to develop the Malaysia-based English test center, promoting progress in examination administration, language training, and standard setting; Second, faculty and student exchanges between CUEB and Malaysian universities should be strengthened, with the aim of building a featured China-Malaysia educational community with a shared future; Third, both sides should promote two-way internationalization of education by advancing Sino-foreign cooperative education and overseas education initiatives, contributing to high-quality regional education development; Fourth, Malaysian experts are encouraged to participate in the 23rd Conference on International Exchange of Professionals, co-organized by CUEB, to jointly explore a harmonious and inclusive global landscape in the era of big data.
Wong expressed his sincere gratitude for the hospitality extended by CUEB. He remarked the visit, based on mutual trust and respect, was a promising one, and that it marked a sound start to long-term cooperation. Looking ahead, he expressed hope for deepened collaboration with Chinese partners to promote the widespread adoption of language testing and improve the quality of education. Wong also expressed hope that both sides would achieve remarkable results in educational and cultural exchanges, and make meaningful contributions to the development of bilateral education, mutual understanding, and regional cooperation.

At the meeting, Badrul and Yao Linxiu jointly unveiled the Designated Test Center for Malaysian University English Test (MUET) on Hongmiao Campus of CUEB in Mainland China. Badrul presented the officially authorized letter for the test center, which was accepted by Su Dongze, Director of the Office of Operational State-owned Property Management of CUEB, while Deputy Minister Wong Kah Woh and President Wu Weixing witnessed the ceremony.
Wu and Wong then offered commemorative gifts to each other, shaking hands warmly, exchanging well wishes, and expressing their shared wishes for a promising future of cooperation.
Prior to the meeting, President Wu accompanied Wong and his delegation on a tour of the campus. He introduced the strategic advantages of CUEB’s two campuses, the structure of academic disciplines, and the school’s achievements in education. The president also shared the meaning behind CUEB’s signature “Camel Spirit” and its ecological philosophy of a “campus in bloom throughout the four seasons.” After the tour, the two sides gathered in the garden on the south side of the Boyuan Building, where Wu and Wong jointly planted a magnolia tree, symbolizing the flourishing China-Malaysia educational cooperation and the pure and enduring friendship between the two countries.
Wong remarked that the visit had left a deep impression on the delegation. He expressed his hope to visit CUEB next year — to once again admire the fragrant magnolias together in Huaxiang (花乡) area, where CUEB is located. In Mandarin, “Huaxiang” means “hometown of flowers” which echoes the phrase “fragrance of flowers(花香)”, adding a poetic resonance to the occasion. He also looked forward to sharing the fruitful outcomes of future cooperation.
This visit further enhanced mutual understanding and engagement between China and Malaysia in education, and significantly advanced CUEB’s friendly cooperation with multiple Malaysian education institutions. It also provided valuable insights for deepening CUEB’s educational collaboration with ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) nations. Capitalizing on this momentum, we will continue to strengthen partnerships with universities and research institutions in Malaysia and other Belt and Road partner nations, forging a new paradigm for international exchange and cooperation among capital-based universities, and to contribute more to the building of a China-Malaysia community with a shared future.
