This year marks the 105th anniversary of the May 4 Movement. On the afternoon of May 8, CUEB held May 4 Wrap-up Ceremony, along with an exhibition in the Academic Report Hall of Boxue Building. This ceremony was to inspire and rally young people to uphold the spirit of the May 4 Movement, shoulder the mission of the times, and reward outstanding groups and individuals of the Communist Youth League (CYL) in 2023. Among the notable attendees were Meng Bo, Deputy Party Secretary; Zhao Guang, Member of the Standing Committee of the CUEB Party Committee; Director of Party Committee Organization Department and Director of United Front Work Department; Feng Bo, Minister of the Student Affairs Department of the Party Committee; Wang Jun, Minister of the Party Committee Graduate Affairs Department and Dean of the Graduate School; Li Juanting, Vice Minister of the Party Committee Publicity Department, along with responsible personnel for student affairs in each school.The ceremony started with the video “Reunion 2023” to review the main work and highlights of CYL of CUEB, showcasing the vigorous image of CUEB League members.

Subsequently, the winning collective representatives and individuals at the national-, Beijing-, and university-level in 2023 were awarded.

In the exhibition session, Liu Jialiang, representing Beijing-Mongolia Collaborative Team as a national excellent team in the 2023 “San Xia Xiang” summer social practice (a project of integrating culture, technology and health into the countryside development), introduced the team’s contribution to rural revitalization.

The School of Statistics won the title of 2023 Beijing CYL Top 100 Team Building. The spokesperson noted vivid cases showing that each member of the CYL has the mission to care for and contribute to people’s well-being.

Next, the College Student Drama Troupe performed scenes from the TV series “The Age of Awakening”, depicting the founding of the Party by Chen Duxiu and Li Dazhao. The resounding oaths of our revolutionary ancestors continue to inspire us even today.

Sun Huazi, recognized as a one-star volunteer at the Red Building of Peking University in 2023, gave a speech titled “A Relay Across Time and Space”, encouraging young people to promote the Revolutionary Spirit in the new era.

Representatives of volunteer service projects recited a poem titled “Make Our School Happier”, portraying the dedicated spirit and unwavering commitment of the youth in the new era to the country.

Under the guidance of the Party’s 20th National Congress, CUEB deeply studies and implements Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, actively engages in volunteer services, and prioritizes youth development. After six months of collection and revision, the slogan of CUEB’s volunteer initiative was solemnly unveiled. This slogan calls on all youth to uphold General Secretary Xi’s aspirations, establishing firm ideals to serve the country and the people, and writing a new chapter of the May 4 Movement spirit.

Finally, on behalf of the CUEB Party Committee, Meng Bo congratulated the commended teams and individuals. Meng pointed out that in recent years, the CYL of CUEB has performed the basic duties of leading and unifying youth, mobilizing their engagement, and providing support and services. He took this opportunity to outline three expectations for future endeavors. First, league cadres should engage in deeper research and reflections to further discharge duties. Second, CYL members should foster trust in the Party and strive to succeed in developing skills. They are expected to keep in mind “the top priorities of the country” and strive to become a new generation with the goal of national rejuvenation. Third, all youth should align personal aspirations with national dreams, actively participating in various recreational competitions to keep both physical and psychological well-being.

The ceremony concluded with the melodious singing of “The Country” performed by A Cappella Vocal Band consisting of CUEB students.A nation’s prosperity hinges on the flourishing of its youth. Adhering to the principle that “the League flag always aligns with the Party flag”, CYL of CUEB is committed to providing robust theoretical guidance for the young through diverse methods, inspiring them to build a strong country and advance national rejuvenation, thus striving to write a new chapter for Chinese modernization!
