CUEB Welcomes 4000-odd Members of the Class of 2019
On August 31th and September 1st, over 4000 members of the Class of 2019, including undergraduates, postgraduates and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, came to CUEB and opened a new chapter of their lives.
In the morning, university leaders, such as Party Secretary Feng Pei, President Fu Zhifeng and Vice-President Wang Chuansheng came to the gym to inspect the orientation work. The scene was in order, with each schools’ booths located in the east and west, other administrative offices, including Academic Affairs Office, Office of Student Affairs, Graduate School and Security Office, in the north and image acquisition area in the south.
First of all, university leaders inspected the welcoming spots of each school and department. School of Management and Engineering, as Feng stressed, was formed from the merger of previous School of Information and School of Safety and Environmental Engineering, which headed the list by enrolling as many as 253 students this year. He hoped that SME could strengthen its soft power so as to be the model of CUEB. School of Economics and School of Public Finance and Taxation should attach equal importance to discipline and specialty development, said President Fu. Besides, down-to-earth measures were supposed to be made to build a high-level faculty team and a talent pool. During the inspection, leaders paid special attention to students who enjoyed joint education, students from remote areas, ethnic minorities and students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. It was reported that students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan would live with mainland students, which could help to promote friendship of both sides.
Next, Secretary Feng and President Fu came to the Minxing Building and had a cordial talk with freshmen and their parents. Feng provided detailed data to introduce the employment of some majors, enhancing students’ confidence in their majors. Fu asked carefully about the student dormitory, told students to pay attention to their safety of life and wished them a happy time in CUEB.
This year, more than 200 students came to register through the “Green Channel”. Feng and Fu presented “loving gift bags” to the freshmen representatives, which included towels, notebooks and other life and learning necessities. Feng welcomed students from remote areas such as Xinjiang and Tibet and told them that they could see school as their home and each family member would care about and love them.
CUEB made full preparations to welcome new CUEBers. Organized by Academic Affairs Office and Post Graduate School, all staff members made joint efforts to offer all-round service: university hospital staff members were present in case of emergency and security guards dispersed the traffic in a bid to prevent traffic jams.
In the following weeks, each school will organize a parent school, helping parents have in-depth discussions with one other. Additionally, they can also know about basic information of their children in terms of the environment, cultivation mode, academic management as well as development guidance. The military training and various kinds of student organizations are sure to add color to their university life.
