On September 9^th, the 36^th Teachers’ Day Awards Ceremony with the theme of “Taking Responsibility and Striving for Future” kicked off at Zhuoyu Auditorium of CUEB. The representatives of school leaders, Party Secretary, chief officials, honored people, retired faculty in 2020 and new faculty and staff members participated in the ceremony. Before the ceremony, everyone watched the 36th Teachers’ Day Special Film, “Taking Responsibility and Striving for Future”, produced by the Publicity Department of the Party Committee. The video focused on the school’s achievements in personnel training, scientific research, the construction of think tanks, the ethics of teachers and the fight against the epidemic.

The awards ceremony started with the grand national anthem. CUEB Student Art Troupe presented the festival blessing to the teachers with the poem recitation and the singing and dancing performance “The Flying Petals”. The teachers’ concern is as warm as spring breeze, their affection is as deep as the sea and they have pupils everywhere.

In order to express gratitude to the faculty dedicated to the development of CUEB, the school held a ceremony for 50 faculty members who were retired in 2020 and were about to retire before the end of this year and presented the “Service School” Medal to the retired representatives.

At the meeting, Feng Pei also announced the awarding decisions of outstanding teachers, awarded Li Qiang and other 9 teachers in CUEB the honorary titles of “Outstanding Teachers”, Zhang Yinghong and other 9 teachers the honorary titles of “Pioneer of Teacher’s Professional Ethics”, Tan Jing and other 9 teachers the honorary titles of “Model of Education”, and Yu Yunpeng and other 72 teachers the honorary titles of “Dedicated and Ordinary Workers in 2020 International Workers' Day” and “Epidemic Prevention and Control Guards”. The certificates and trophies will be presented to the awarded teachers.

During the session of the meeting, the teacher representative—Professor Tong Yufen from School of Labor Economics —a delivered the speech. She explained the mission and responsibility that college teachers should have in the new era from four aspects: to firm up ideal and faith, to forge noble character, to master proficient expertise and to keep the spirit of struggle. She called on all teachers staying true to our founding mission, we should keep up with the “Four Qualifications” standard proposed by the General Secretary Xi Jinping, “having lofty ideal and faith, having virtue and morality, having solid knowledge, and having a kind heart”, and make due contributions to the cultivation of the new generation with “Four Qualifications”.

The Dean of the University Hospital, Wang Xiaohong, a representative of the faculty and staff, reviewed the epidemic prevention and control in our campus for more than 200 days from the beginning of this year to the present. From the outbreak of epidemic, we set foot on the battlefield without gunpowder, seized every minute and second to improve the various processes and mechanisms. When the epidemic broke out again, the entire hospital sent out escort. To prevent the epidemic, the school provides precise measures to scientific prevention and control, put teachers’, students’ and staffs’ safety and health in the first place. We did our utmost to stay true to the original mission and shoulder the responsibility.

Then the participants watched the short video of speeches by these commended teachers, learning how they interpret “Taking Responsibility and Striving for Future” with practical actions and show the love and dauntlessness of CUEBers in this new era.

Wang Maolin, teacher from the School of Accounting, one of the competitors of “Best Classes in Beijing”, gave a lecture about auditing fraud. Combining Xi Jinping’s lectures about anti-corruption, he merged professional knowledge and ideological and political education together step by step. By doing so, he achieved synergistic effect by both improving the affinity and accuracy of ideological and political education and leading students to stick to the bottom line of morality and commit themselves to the society.

The ceremony ended with Secretary Feng Pei’s final remarks. He extended warm greetings to all the staffs working hard in teaching, scientific research, management and service in the past year and expressed best wishes to all retired teachers. “In the fight against COVID-19, all faculty and staffs are dauntless and persistent,” he recalled and remarked that, “The world is undergoing profound changes unprecedented in the past century, and that the development of CUEB will also experience reform and changes. We should embrace these new opportunities and challenges in the new stage with dialectical thinking and capture opportunities from these immediate crisis and difficulties. The following are three advises:

The first is to remain true to our original aspiration of education. The key to education is the teacher, and the key to the teacher is the spirit and mission. For this reason, we must practice the core socialist values, strengthen the consciousness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core, and keep in alignment, enhance the confidence in the path, theory, system, and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics, resolutely uphold General Secretary Xi Jinping’s core position on the Party Central Committee and in the Party as a whole, and resolutely uphold the Party Central Committee’s authority and its centralized, unified leadership. We should cultivate patriotism, foster character and civic virtue and shoulder the mission of national rejuvenation.

The second is to take responsibility. Teachers should combine theory with social reality, respond to social hot spots, explore the impact and changes of the epidemic on the various industries and fields, and provide high-quality and influential policy recommendations and decision-making consultations to advance scientific research and social services in Beijing.

The third is committed to hard-working. Hard-working is not just a loud slogan, but doing every little thing carefully, accomplishing every task, and fulfilling every duty. We should be an actor rather than a talker, be a fighter to overcome difficulties and not a clay Bodhisattva vulnerable to the wind and rain.

Feng hoped that all the staff will be more actively involved in the reform and development of CUEB, devote themselves to teaching and educating talents, scale the academic heights. And they will unite as one and invigorate the spirit, seize the opportunity, work in a high sense of responsibility so as to cultivate talents to meet the needs of contemporary economic and social development, build a modern, international, multi-disciplinary university of finance and economics, domestically outstanding and internationally famous, thus creating a new chapter for CUEB.
