Let’s E-meet each other and set sail for the future. In September, CUEB saw  vibrant new students! At 8:30 am on September 25th, the 2020 Opening Ceremony was held online via live streaming. All school leaders, teachers and students’ parents joined together to witness 5,140 new students smoothly participate into the big family of CUEB and start their new journey.

In accordance with the requirements of ongoing prevention and control, CUEB, adhering to the principle of “Prioritizing Life and Health”, has prepared a unique online ceremony for 2020 students with the utmost sincerity and efforts.

The ceremony is divided into three chapters. The first chapter is “Twelve Divisions of Day and Night in CUEB”. Based on the perspective of new students, this chapter tells the story of CUEBers’ hard work in each of the 12 divisions of day and night.

The second chapter is “You Are A CUEBer since Today”. The school carefully produced a new song for new students with the theme of “You have a new identity as are CUEBer since Today”, so as to guide students to start a new life.

Fu Zhifeng, the President, delivered a speech after the cheery new song. On behalf of all faculty and students, he expressed a warm welcome and heartfelt congratulations to the arrival of the new students. He proposed three hopes to the new students: first, to set up a lofty ideal and find the right track of life; second, to improve learning ability and achieve self-improvement; third, to cultivate the spirit of innovation and seek coordinated development. Finally, he encouraged all the students to start a wonderful new journey in CUEB with fresh dreams and vigorous vitality.

 On behalf of all teachers, Zhang Shijun, Dean of the School of Law, said that 2020 is a year that can not be forgotten, and the students of Grade 2020 are also destined to be special. He hoped that the students could complete the transformation from high school students to college students as soon as possible, and keep accumulating knowledge, improving insights, bearing the world in mind, and working hard together, so as to achieve new growth.

On behalf of all graduate tutors, Du Wencui, Vice Dean of the School of Economics, delivered a speech. First of all, she congratulated the new students of Grade 2020 on overcoming all kinds of difficulties and coming to CUEB. Then, she advised the students to find their interests as soon as possible, seek the truth, cherish time, enjoy themselves in the ocean of knowledge, and be the best self.

A good teacher leads the way while a good friend goes with him. The Student Union, the Graduate Student Union, the Art Troupe, the Student Clubs and other student organizations, being the student representative, welcome the new students.

The third chapter is “We Are All Dreamers”. The theme song MV demonstrated the detailed life of teachers, counsellors and students, which expressed an expectation for the future of new students.

Lu Yang, a freshman at the School of Economics, spoke on behalf of all undergraduate students. She said that CUEB is the beginning of a new chapter in everyone’s life, a place where young people gather in, also a fertile soil for the germination of dreams. After the epidemic, the freshmen should have a dream and strive hard, remember the motto “Advocate Morality, Value Competence, Strategize National Development, and Serve the People”, and draw a colorful future without regret in CUEB.

Wang Xiangyang, graduate of Grade 2020 in the School of Statistics, spoke on behalf of all the new graduate students. He said that scientific research has never been a smooth road, so only brave man can go forward. The students should continue to maintain their enthusiasm for learning, demand themselves strictly with higher standards, keep in mind the motto of CUEB, constantly explore and study, and enhance their practical abilities in scientific research, so as to achieve the goal of building CUEB into first-class university in domestic and internationally renowned university and contribute a force to China’s economic and social development.

At the end of the ceremony, all the school leaders gave their earnest hopes to the students of Grade 2020. They hoped that the students will uphold the “camel spirit” and keep in mind the school motto of “Advocate Morality, Value Competence, Strategize National Development, and Serve the People”. The students should promote the development of times in global vision, sense of patriotism and affection of capital.

By the end of the ceremony, Party Secretary Feng Pei delivered a speech called The First Lesson to all new students. Starting from the interests of the students of Grade 2020, Feng analyzed the current development of China and a series of social hot issues in simple terms. He encourages students to cherish time when keeping up with the era, to improve the ability in accordance with the demand of CPC and the people, to aim for the highest, cultivate ability and morality, coordinate sense and sensibility, dare to explore, fly dreams in vigorous youth and achieve great success through hard work.

The online opening ceremony was strongly supported by Xiao E Tech platform, and was simultaneously broadcast live on media platforms such as Bilibili. All new undergraduate students, graduate students, students for Second Bachelor Degree, run-through cultivated students and parents of new students, a total of more than 30,000 people watched online. They sent blessings to the students of Grade 2020 through online comments and other forms.
