Dear teachers, students and staff:

It has been 126 days since our departure before last winter vacation. The resurgences of epidemic caused by a COVID-19 variant disrupted our daily life and work. During these days when we fight against the epidemic together, all CUEBers give top priority to our country’s fundamental interests. Under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, we fully understand and implement the “dynamic zero-COVID policy”, cooperate with local governments and our university in epidemic prevention as required. Teachers and students have rolled out online classes; volunteers wearing protective clothing have worked on prevention services; faculties on campus have carried out epidemic prevention every day and night; many CUEBers have stayed at home following local prevention policies. We all have contributed to the fight against the epidemic and shouldered the lofty mission entrusted by the era. With concerted efforts of teachers, students, and staff, epidemic prevention in CUEB has been implemented in a well-planned way, and the teaching and research have been conducted in an orderly and stable manner. Here, we express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has been committed and working hard. Thank you for your efforts.

Currently, as the chains of transmission are cut incompletely, the epidemic prevention and control in Beijing remains a stalemate with sporadic outbreaks of scattered infections. Therefore, we should not slack off. To enhance COVID-19 response and thoroughly win this battle against the epidemic, the following suggestions are issued to all teachers, students and staff of CUEB:

1. Take on Responsibility through Deepening Understanding

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, China has committed to people and life first, and adhered to the policy of preventing imported cases and domestic resurgences and the approach of dynamic zero-COVID. China implements its virus control measures based on different circumstances, achieving a strategic success. All CUEB faculty members and students should acquire a deep and comprehensive understanding of the guidelines and policies for epidemic prevention and control established by the Party Central Committee to effectively improve our political stance, strengthen our responsibility, and consciously keep consistent with the decisions and deployment of the Party Central Committee in mind and action. We should uphold the approach of dynamic zero-COVID, remain clearheaded by resolutely conquering various erroneous ideas, make unremitting efforts in key prevention and control work through implementing the measures of early detection, reporting, quarantine and treatment, and strengthen society-wide efforts to contain the virus.

2. Make Dedication through Fulfilling Missions

The fight against the pandemic shows the advantages of the CPC’s leadership and the socialist system. China’s spirit in combating the COVID-19 epidemic, featuring putting people’s lives first, nationwide solidarity, sacrifice, respecting science and a sense of mission for humanity, was forged in this practice. At present, we need to stay on high alert as Beijing still stands at a severely-hit region. We should consciously wear masks when we go out, take nucleic acid tests and monitor health condition as required. The staff and students who are working and studying from home should strictly comply with the policies of the local community, reduce unnecessary movement, and keep away from gatherings and parties. Those who are at school should not order takeout and receive express on campus unless necessary. If the express has been on the way, it must be carefully disinfected and sterilized by the gatekeepers of CUEB when it is delivered. Behaviors that may cause physical contact, such as delivering items through the campus fence, should be prohibited to promote stronger measures and consolidate the country’s hard-won progress in anti-epidemic work.

3. Be Persistent and Supportive through Self-discipline and Self-reliance

Since the beginning of this semester, the pandemic has prevented us from getting together. We have to meet one other in screen instead of in face. Teachers and counselors discuss with students online about their studies, and try to address their concerns and problems in a timely fashion. Helping and connecting via internet has become our living normal, which have lasted over 80 days, and we all look forward to going back after COVID-19. As the pandemic situation is not clear yet, the lockdown will remain in place on campus for a period of time. It is hoped that teachers will take the lead in complying with the regulations of teaching management and the internet code of conduct, and teach every online class carefully to create a clear, orderly and efficient online education environment. While students are highly expected to take this opportunity to better yourselves, to prioritize learning as the top task, as a duty, a spiritual pursuit and a way of life, to guard against rash actions, keep exercising, and develop good habits of study and regular bedtimes. The pandemic can serve as a life training, and all of us can perform well in this “Broader Ideological and Political Education”.

“For life is of paramount importance, we should go where there is epidemic, fight it till it perishes.” No one is an outsider of epidemic prevention. Our country and campus need to be safeguarded by our joint efforts. Teachers and students, let’s work together to put up a strong defense to contain the epidemic through a united will, and anticipate the day we meet again!
