On the afternoon of September 7, CUEB held the Teachers’ Day Commendation Ceremony, themed with “celebrating the Party’s 20th National Congress, Nourishing the roots and forging the souls of the new generations”. It was to commend teachers and staffs who retired in 2022, or have been committed to education for 30 years, or those individuals and groups who have made great achievements in education. Deputy Party Secretary Xu Fang presided over the meeting and all leaders of CUEB attended it.

CUEB Party Secretary Han Xianzhou extended warm congratulations, and sincere respect to all the teachers and staffs concerned, wishing all faculty members Happy Teachers’ Day, and expressed sincere gratitude to them.

The year 2022 is a significant year on a new journey in the new era. The Communist Party of China will convene its 20th National Congress. According to the Keynote Speech by General Secretary Xi Jinping at a Seminar Attended by Provincial and Ministerial-level Officials, the Report to the Thirteenth Beijing Municipal Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Work Plan for Promoting Broader Ideological and Political Education issued by the Ministry of Education, etc., and the important spirit of summer work conferences of universities in Beijing, Han Xianzhou analyzed the new circumstances and tasks faced by the nation, the capital, higher education, and CUEB.

Over these years, CUEB has innovated patterns and means to foster virtue in education, capital development in the new era, broader ideological and political education, high-quality development, and other main tasks. In this vein, we have been more determined in direction, more proficient in practice and more fruitful in outcome.

Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, CUEB Party Committee has focused on the fundamental task of fostering virtue in education based on capital development in the new era. Advancing curriculum ideological and political construction helped to build an education system that ensures the well-rounded development of students in terms of moral grounding, intellectual and physical ability, aesthetic sensibility, and work skills; to build a high-quality talent cultivation system; and to reform the Three-Wide Education system. We built broader ideological and political education and acquired a deep understanding of the new task of higher education. Thus, we stood firmer in direction.

Since October 2020, we have been working hard to build a sound Three-Wide Education system, advance curriculum ideological and political construction, cultivate revolutionary CUEB, and innovate other new methods in education. Teachers become more initiative and improve their teaching. Thus, we become more proficient in practice.

Over the past two years, the ideological and political construction has been better integrated in every course and explored more deeply by every teacher. More excellent teachers have stood out and more achievements and breakthroughs have been made in our disciplines and majors. Thus, we are more fruitful in outcome.

General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out that education is a benevolent cause with deep love. Teachers should be not only masters but also role models to transmit wisdom, impart knowledge and resolve doubles. Therefore, Han Xianzhou put forward three expectations for the faculty: Firstly, enhance political awareness. All the  teachers and staff must stay highly politically sensitive and resolute, strengthen our consciousness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, follow the leadership core and keep in alignment, enhance confidence in the path, theory, system and culture of socialism with Chinese characteristics, firmly uphold General Secretary Xi Jinping’s core position in both the Party Central Committee and the Party as a whole, and firmly uphold the Party Central Committee’s authority and its centralized, unified leadership. Teachers need to take correct political stance in class, public comments and ideological emancipation. Secondly, have a deeper understanding toward education in the new era. This calls for focuses on the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation and significant changes unseen in a century. Witnessing the new realities and changes in today’s higher education, our teachers and staffs need to grasp the features and requirements in new stages, goals, forms and situations. We must be faithful to true insights and national realities so as to conduct targeted research and thesis for China to solve real problems. Thirdly, seek for higher standards of cultivating students. All the teachers and staff must assume responsibilities to cultivate talents for the Party and the country and observe teaching ethics to cultivate new talents in the new era. Also, educators must educate themselves before educating students, increasingly improving expertise and becoming more proficient in digital teaching skills. Our goal was to give students high-quality courses and become better-qualified teachers dedicated to imparting knowledge and cultivating students.

CUEB worked to conscientiously carry out General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important instructions about learning from Huang Danian, who became China’s top geophysicist and an awardee of “Touching China 2017” and implement the requirements in line with the CPC Central Committee and Ministry of Education. Therefore, we earnestly strove to strengthen teachers’ ethics and build a more professional and innovative teaching team to ensure a better education for more talents. In 2022, after application and selection, 8 teacher teams were honored as CUEB Teacher Teams Guided by Huang Danian Spirits, including Professor Wu Kang and his team of Urban Management and Capital Space Governance, Professor Wang Yonggui and his team of Business Administration, Professor Yang Chunxue and his team of Theoretical Economics, Professor Feng Xiliang and his team of Socialist Labor Science with Chinese Characteristics, Professor Wang Jingda and his team of Assets Assessment, Professor Zhang Shijun and his team of Law Teaching guided by Huang Danian Spirits, Professor Yin Zhichao and his team of Household Finance and Professor Liu Guanjun and his team Marxism and Ideological and Political Theory.

At the meeting, all participants watched the special video named “the Original Aspiration and Mission of Educators”, which was made by Publicity Department of the School Party Committee and Teachers Affairs Department of the School Party Committee to celebrate the 38th Teachers’ Day. In this video, CUEB conducted the comprehensive reform of "the Three-Wide Education" system and further implemented the basic task of cultivating students while fostering their virtues with the guidance of curriculum ideological and political construction. Besides, we’ve also made remarkable achievements in working for the development of Beijing in the new era, which manifested the good spirits of our teachers.

The storytelling part, theme with “Celebrating the 20th National Congress of CPC While Staying True to Cultivating Professionals”, was to narrate the experience of students cultivation. The representative of 2022 CUEB Excellent Teachers Sun Zhongjuan, representative of 2022 CUEB Pioneer of Teacher’s Professional Ethics Zhang Baoxue and head of the First CUEB Teacher Teams Guided by Huang Danian Spirits Wang Jingda shared their opinions in serving the capital progress, cultivating talents and developing faculty groups. This part displayed the CUEBers’ spirits of keeping faithful to the Party and the country, fostering virtue through education and maintaining the self-confidence and self-reliance.

With the theme of “Cultivating Business Talents through Business Knowledge”, Sun Zhongjuan shares her experience and advice to become CUEB Excellent Teacher. Teachers must be dedicated to exploring the methods of educating students under the principle of being faithful to the mission of cultivating talents for the Party and the country, fostering character and civic virtue, becoming qualified teachers with firm ideals and beliefs, moral sentiments, solid knowledge and benevolence. Guided by the core of academic exploration and Ideological and Political Courses, teachers should concentrate on research and the common development among teachers and students, and at the meantime serve the Capital development in order to fulfill our social value.

Taking “Cultivating Talents through Virtues and Becoming Better-qualified Teachers in Statistics” as the theme, Zhang Baoxue shares his opinions as the CUEB leading teacher and Dean of the School of Statistics. One must build up his moral character and improve teaching competence, conduct innovative research with the principle of seeking truth with questioning spirits and bear responsibilities to pursue academic development in his research domain.

In line with the theme of “Cultivating Talented Evaluators with Great Enthusiasm”, Wang Jingda shares the experiences and stories of the teacher team of Assets Assessment. He showed us their great passion toward education, full dedications to stimulation of students’ potentials, genuine affection toward their students, unremitting endeavor to conduct research and dogged perseverance to pursue further progress.

As a Chinese saying goes, one will enjoy the respect and affection if he treats others with sincerity. In honor of the excellent teachers in CUEB, the dance troupe presents the dance performance “Flagrance”. The Award Ceremony comes to an end within the singing of “Ode to the Motherland”.
