New Semester, New CUEB!
At the very beginning of the year, everything takes on a fresh look. With positive attitude and great enthusiasm, CUEBers welcome their new semester. The campus is filled with joy and vigor as teachers and students meet again after several months of separation.
The new semester kicks off on February 13th. At 7:50 a.m., Li Xiaomu, Vice Presidents of CUEB, led the team to inspect the preparation work for the new semester and offers guidance to ensure the smooth and orderly start of the school year.
Li Xiaomu and his team inspected Boxue Building and Shensi Building. They also visited facilities including the classroom monitoring center in Boxue Building, the Economics and Management Experimental Teaching Center, the digital finance laboratory, the electrical laboratory, the occupational hazards laboratory, and the chemistry laboratory. During the inspection, Li stressed that classroom teaching is the main pathway of professional training, and urged relevant departments to actively promote classroom teaching reform, scientifically explore new teaching models, and consistently encourage students’ engagement in class in order to improve the quality of teaching.
In the Wisdom Interactive Classroom of Shensi Building, Li Xiaomu and his team received a detailed briefing on the construction of the school's interactive classroom. They emphasized the importance of collaboration with relevant departments, providing training to teachers in the application of wisdom teaching, and constantly improving their information technology teaching skills. Besides, he also placed emphasis on maximizing the use of the wisdom interactive classroom to support wisdom teaching comprehensively improving the quality of talent training in schools, which will help to provide new impetus for the high-quality development of our school.
In the chemistry laboratory, Li Xiaomu and his team focused on verifying the proper storage, usage, and management of hazardous chemicals in the laboratory. Li stressed that laboratory safety matters most to ensure the orderly teaching and research in terms of its close relation to the personal and property safety of teachers and students. The leader of each unit should enhance their political consciousness and strengthen their safety, paying attention to laboratory safety education, the development of laboratory safety management systems, and the implementation of a safety responsibility system. They should also enforce a strict laboratory safety access system, continuously investigate potential safety hazards, and perform timely ventilation, disinfection, epidemic prevention, and safety self-examination to create a secure environment for teaching and research experiment.
In the spring semester of 2023 for the undergraduate teaching, the university reportedly arranged a total of 1983 teaching sessions, involving 641 courses, 2214 classes, and 752 teachers.
To ensure the smooth progress of undergraduate teaching, the Academic Affairs Office formulated a series of documents, such as "Arrangements for Undergraduate Teaching Work in the Spring Semester of 2023" and "Work Plan for the Prevention and Control of Epidemic at the Beginning of the Spring Semester of 2023" during the winter holiday. Additionally, relevant notices were issued, such as "Arrangements for Examinations at the Beginning of the Spring Semester of 2023" and "Final Examinations for the First Semester of the 2022-2023 Academic Year".
According to relevant requirements, the assessment of undergraduate courses in the first semester of the 2022-2023 academic year will be conducted in an orderly manner. The final examinations of some subjects will be held this semester, involving 15 examination centers and 25299 students. To ensure the smooth examinations, the Academic Affairs Office deployed the final examinations at the beginning of this spring semester during the winter holidays, collaborated with related departments, and effectively communicated with them on issues, such as examination hall arrangement, invigilation arrangement, inspection arrangement, and examination paper printing. Additionally, the Academic Affairs Office issued notices through its official website, academic affairs management system, and undergraduate teaching micro-services platform to remind students to prepare for the examinations, fully ensuring that the undergraduate teaching in this new semester go smoothly and effectively.
Jiang Hong, Deputy Dean of the Graduate School, stated that the Graduate School implemented the school’s requirements for the epidemic prevention and control at the beginning of the academic year, carefully planned tasks for the start of this spring semester, and formulated work arrangement for graduate education and teaching in accordance with the university calendar for the 2022-2023 academic year. By scientifically coordinating education and teaching modes, the Graduate School successfully deployed matters related to graduate education and teaching this semester, as well as contingency plans to ensure order. The teaching plan involves a total of 535 courses, 11721 students and 615 teachers.

【First day of the new semester】
In the classroom, teachers and students were fully engaged. Teachers gave in-depth explanations while students listened attentively. In the library and study rooms, everyone was engrossed in their books, relishing in the knowledge. On the playground, students were sweating and cheering, basking in the happiness on the first day of the new semester. In the canteen, the aroma of food filled the air, as students gathered in groups to savor the delicious meals.
