On the afternoon of June 14, the Opening Ceremony for “Colorful Beijing, Youth Blooming” Campaign (short for the Campaign), also known as “New Strides in the New Era” Report Meeting was convened in the lecture hall of Boxue Building. Gu Yinbo, Deputy Director of Party Theories Office of Publicity Department of Beijing Municipal Party Committee, Liu Mei, Director of Publicity Office at Community Levels of Beijing Academy of Social Sciences and Xu Fang, CUEB Deputy Party Secretary attended the meeting.

The Campaign, co-organized by Publicity Department of Beijing Municipal Party Committee and Education Work Committee of Beijing Municipal Committee, coincided with the time of implementing the 20th CPC National Congress spirits and the Education Campaign of further implementing and studying Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. The Campaign is designed to strike a balance between high-quality cultural resources and personnel cultivation in capital Universities, thus helping implement cultural education in a tangible manner. On May 23, the signing ceremony was held in Renmin University of China. CUEB, one of the first 16 Universities, attended the meeting. The Campaign has set up 6 different mechanisms for theoretical research and publicity, revolutionary culture research, volunteering, high-quality development of Beijing Cultural Industrial Parks, cultural relics research and artistic performance and other 14 projects. CUEB took over 6 targets of the first 4 mechanisms, with the Party Committee Publicity Department as the guiding unit and School Youth League Committee, School of Culture and Communication and School of Marxism as the executive ones.

Fu Lin, administrative Vice Minister of the Party Committee Publicity Department, presides over the ceremony. Gu Yinbo, Liu Mei, and Xu Fang jointly declare the commencement of the Campaign.

Wang Yin, General Secretary of the Party Branch of School of Marxism, presided over the report meeting. 6 speakers introduced their strides in the New Era. Li Zhankun, instructor of Pool and Mulberry Tree Temple (Tanzhe Si) Fire Station in Mentougou District, shared his heroic deeds in his speech titled “Braving the Fire”. He Shaohua, CPPCC member, model worker of Beijing and driver of BRT Line 2, described how she stayed committed to better serving the passengers through a speech titled “Heavy Responsibilities”. Li Chun, “National Excellent Police” from Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau of Tiananmen Branch, shared her experiences of searching lost properties for visitors in her speech titled “Guarding the Public Safety of the Capital”. Wang Xitong, staff member of Beijing Wod Chen-Long Biotechnology, shared her team’s researches and achievements in breeding industry through the speech “Cultivating China-Brand Laying Hens”. Wu Xijun, China model worker, leader of Highway Maintenance Group of Beijing Capital Highway Development Group CO., Ltd, demonstrated his resolution to keep the traffic flowing in the speech “Resolution to Road Maintenance”. Guo Dandan, former freestyle skiing world champion and torcher of Beijing Winter Olympics, shared her stories of promoting winter sports in the speech “Unwavering Faith to Winter Sports”.

Throughout the report meeting, the audience burst into thunderous applause many times after hearing their impressive deeds.

Over 150 participants from relevant departments and schools, Youth Cadre Training Class and School of Marxism attended the meeting.

A symposium was held after the meeting. All speakers shared their own experiences and encouraged students to apply what they have learned to constructing a modern socialist China in all respects.

Yu Wenzhu, student of Grade 2022 from School of Marxism, mentioned that all speakers had shown how Beijing’s youth made their contributions. Li Zhankun braved the fire and contributed his youth to people’s safety. He Shaohua brought warm services to all passengers with passion. Li Chun’s stories showed us that public services, whether minor or major, would be meaningful for us. After years of experiments, Wang Xitong and her team ensured a domestic circulation through cultivating new species of laying hens. Committed to the duty of road maintenance, Wu Xijun achieved his own values. Guo Dandan overcame hardships and injuries to achieve breakthroughs in skiing to our country. Even in retirement, she continued to shine in the sport, leaving her mark on the snow slopes with her fearless youth and hard work.  All of these have epitomized the youth of Beijing and China.

Qiao Yawen, a student of Grade 2021 from School of Marxism, mentioned that these models were the beacons of our future. After the meeting and symposium, she learned a lot from all speakers’ experiences and believed that all of us should follow these models and make strides in the journey of study, life and career.

Guan Yuan, a student of Grade 2020 from School of Marxism, was moved by the deeds and experiences of the 6 models. He mentioned that the youth must further implement the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and earnestly practice the 20th CPC National Congress spirits, thus realizing the Chinese dream of national rejuvenation.
