CUEB Holds 20th Annual Sports Meeting Marking 70th Anniversary
With the gentle spring breeze and lush vegetation, the athletic field at CUEB main campus brimmed with great passion from CUEBers. From April 23 to 24, 2026, CUEB held its 20th annual sports meeting at the stadium.

The opening ceremony took place on the morning of April 24. Attendees included the university’s leadership, members of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, and leaders from the Miyun Campus. CUEB Vice President Li Kunpeng, the Standing Committee of CUEB Party Committee and Director of the University Sports Committee, presided over the ceremony.

President Wu Weixing addressed the opening ceremony, noting that this year marked the 70th anniversary of CUEB and the commencement of the 15th Five-Year Plan . He underscored the university’s commitment to cultivating virtue through education, embracing the “Health First” philosophy and giving equal emphasis on all five aspects of education (moral, labor, aesthetic, sports, and intellectual education). The school’s sports initiatives have yielded remarkable achievements, placing it at the forefront among universities in Beijing. Wu hoped that the participating teachers and students would uphold the spirit of sports, strive for excellence, and surpass themselves, fully demonstrating the vibrant and positive spirit of the faculty and students at CUEB. He emphasized that this sports meeting should serve as an opportunity to further unite the entire university community. He called on everyone to dedicate their robust physique and proactive attitude to the 70th anniversary, thereby injecting stronger momentum into the development of a first-class finance university that meets the highest standards, embodies Chinese characteristics, and enjoys international renown.
Fan Cheng, a teacher from the Sports Department, and Zhang Jingge, a 2023 undergraduate of the International School of Economics and Management, took their oaths respectively on behalf of the referees and athletes.

The meeting, organized by CUEB Sports Committee in collaboration with the Sports Department, Student Affairs Department of the Party Committee, Labor Union, and the Youth League Committee, featured five major categories comprising 50 events in total: field events, track events, mixed team events, physical fitness tests, and group gymnastics. Over 4,000 faculty and students participated. To the melody of March of the Volunteers , the bright Five-Starred Red Flag rose slowly into the sky. Following the ceremony, Party Secretary Liu Ying declared the meeting open.

The 70th anniversary celebration deeply inspired all faculty and students. During the group gymnastics performance, the children from the CUEB Affiliated Kindergarten opened the show with a Chinese-style martial arts routine, earning frequent applause.

Subsequently, eight representative teams that advanced to the group gymnastics finals showcased their performances after 40 days of rigorous training. The students were full of energy and united as one.

As music filled the stadium, students performed synchronized routines with confidence and enthusiasm, demonstrating teamwork and coordination through every movement.

After the group gymnastics, a formation of nearly 1,600 teachers and students jointly presented a large-scale group gymnastics and Baduanjin (lit. “Eight Brocades”, a traditional Chinese health Qigong exercise) performance. Their coordinated movements reflected the vitality and spirit of the CUEBers.

With “health first” principle as its core, the stadium witnessed countless memorable moments. As the starter’s pistol echoed across the track, athletes sprinted forward like the wind. Sweat glistened under the sunlight as determination, endurance, and final bursts of speed embodied the youthful spirit of CUEBers.

Athletes accelerated toward takeoff with powerful strides. The sequence of arm swings, leaps, and landings showcased the radiant spirit of CUEB. With persistence and resolve, they gave their utmost effort in pursuit of excellence, living up to everyone’s expectations.

The event also became a stage for friendship and teamwork among students. In “Broken-Bridge Relay”, teams of six students moved forward in rhythm and coordination; in “Race Against Time”, teams of five students navigated the course quickly and smoothly; in “Rapid Assembly”, teams of three students worked together steadily to complete the task; in “Smoke Escape Drill”, all team members relied on cooperation and mutual understanding to finish the challenge.

Teachers likewise demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and competitive spirit. In “Passing and Linking Challenge”, teams of ten teachers coordinated flexibly throughout the event; in “Take-the-Lead Relay”, teams of six teachers ran side by side toward the finish line; in “Fun Ball-Clamping Game” team members worked closely together, filled with laughter and joy; in “Running Tangram Challenge”, teams of five teachers competed with energy and determination.

Behind the scenes, referees, volunteers, event organizers and doctors in the University Hospital worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of every event. Thanks go to every unsung hero—they form the solid and warm backbone of the competition.
The medals honored not only the athletes who performed well in competition, but also every member who participated with enthusiasm and teamwork.
Although the event has concluded, these brilliant and unforgettable moments have been deeply etched in the memory of this spring. Moving forward, let’s join hands to create even more splendid chapters!
