2nd International Language Service Research Forum of Universities in Beijing & “Mock CIFTIS” Held at CUEB
The 2nd International Language Service Research Forum of Universities in Beijing and “Mock CIFTIS” were held at CUEB. Government, enterprises, and academic sectors joined on campus to provide students with practical, real-world training.
Recently, in the digital and intelligent technology exhibition area of the “Mock CIFTIS” at CUEB, a student was explaining the battery functions of new energy vehicles to visitors. Not far away, in the goods trade zone, students were introducing self-developed products to enterprise representatives in English. Nearly 30 enterprises set up booths on campus, allowing students not only to participate in simulated transactions but also to submit resumes on the spot and seek internship opportunities.

Organized by the International Language Service Research Alliance of Universities in Beijing, the event gathered representatives from government, enterprises and universities to discuss key issues including language services and trade, reinforcing Beijing’s role as an international exchange center.
The highlight was the “Mock CIFTIS”, which featured four exhibition zones: cultural exchange, goods trade, overseas services, and digital & intelligent technology. Nearly 30 enterprises provided multilingual interpretation services in Chinese, English, French and other languages. From showcasing cutting-edge smart devices and displaying self-developed products for sale to providing guidance on study abroad and academic exchange programs, students made the leap from “classroom simulation” to “practical training” in real-world scenarios.
“From assisting senior students last year to working independently this year, I have grown a lot,” said Wang Man, a Business English major of Grade 2023 from the School of Foreign Studies. During the Mock CIFTIS, she contacted multiple enterprises to set up booths, set up experience areas and handled campus entry procedures. “My communication skills have improved, and I have put my knowledge into use.” Chen Jingwei, also a Business English major, gained a deeper understanding of employment prospects while communicating with enterprises. “Many HR teams accepted resumes on site, and the Mock CIFTIS built a bridge connecting us with enterprises.”

Student volunteers in blue uniforms from the School of Foreign Studies were busy, undertaking all tasks from trade negotiations and comprehensive services to emergency dispatch. Liang Mingyu, Secretary of the Youth League Committee of this school, noted, “We hope this activity will take students out of the classroom, let them learn through practice, and improve their comprehensive
competences such as on-site coordination.”

Liu Ying, Secretary of the Party Committee of CUEB, stated that the university is striving to build a world-class university of finance and economics with Beijing standards, Chinese characteristics and global reputation. It is comprehensively advancing open education, empowering students training with digitalization and internationalization, and building a new liberal arts experimental center for language
and big data integration to support the development of new quality productive forces in the capital. At the opening ceremony, speeches were delivered by Li Xiaomu, Vice President of CUEB; Zhao Qizhou, Member of the Party Group of Beijing Municipal Commerce Bureau and Secretary of the Party Committee and Director of Beijing International Fair for Trade in Services Affairs Center; Zhu Ying, Vice President of Translators Association of China under China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration; and Li Shujing, Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Foreign Languages, Peking University and Chairperson of College English Research Branch of Beijing Higher Education Association. They all agreed that the event was an innovative practice of the CIFTIS spirit on campus, which will promote the development of the language service industry, strengthen the cultivation of interdisciplinary talents and the formulation of industry standards, and help foreign language education in universities transform toward application, service and collaborative education.
The event also featured a round-table forum. Guests including Zhang Chi, Member of the Party Committee and Deputy Director General of Beijing Diplomatic Service Bureau, discussed topics such as digital empowerment, student training, industry demands and the development of an international exchange center. They proposed building a new collaborative education ecosystem of “government-industry-academia-research-application”
framework. After the forum, enterprises and the university engaged in one-to-one precise matchmaking meetings to discuss employment, project cooperation and other specific matters. Guests and senior executives from more than ten enterprises attended the discussion, including Beijing Diplomatic Service Bureau, Foreign Affairs Office of People’s Government of Fengtai District Beijing, Bureau of Commerce of Fengtai District Beijing, Federation of Industry and Commerce of Huairou District Beijing, and Fengtai District Chamber of Commerce Beijing.
